Parallels between 'Kiss...' and 'Beautiful Thing'?

Hi everybody!

Lately I saw "The Kiss of the Spider Woman" on tv and then it dawned to me - so many parallels to the movie "Beautiful Thing" (which I quite like). The idea came to me when I saw a particular scene: After Luis and Valentin become friends, Valentin shows Luis his wounds, which directly reminded me of a similar scene in BT.

Other parallels:

- two men caught in a prison (in BT it's the surroundings Jamie and Ste live in and in "Kiss.." it's a dircet prison.

- one of the guys obviously is gay, falls for another and it takes him a long way to win the other guy's trust

- one of the guys has a strong relationship to his mother

- the obviously gay guy (in Kiss it's Luis, in BT it's Jamie) asks the other guy to make love to him

- one of the guys escapes the prison he is trapped in (Luis is allowed to leave the prison, Jamie moves away with his mother into better surroundings)

- the intimate atsmosphere in the cell/in Jamie's room (scenes ressemble each other in both movies)

and many, many more. Seems to me that Jonathan Harvey got a lot of inspiration from "Kiss.." for his movie. As for me, there's nothing to complain about, I quite like it for both movies are great.
