You can get Kiss of the Spider Woman free on DVD this Saturday (12/01/08) with The Guardian newspaper.

Well, the bad news is that the cover is incorrect in stating that its 16:9, implying anamorphic widescreen - it isn't; it's 4:3. And there are no chapter stops.

However the good news is that it IS letterboxed to its original aspect ratio (1.85:1). Even blown up to fill a widescreen TV the picture quality looks very good. And English subtitles are available, if required.

At a quick look, the print looks to be in excellent condition, and the picture quality is surprisingly good for 4:3 letterbox.

It's apparently an NTSC conversion too, but given that there's no other legit release around, I can't say this bothers me!

Well there I was on Saturday morning in Sainsbury's and what did I see, a film I loved included free with the Guardian that I've been waiting in vain for years to be released on dvd! Fantastic.
