The Scene With The 2 Of them in the jail cell * Spoilers *
why did valentin finally give in and have sex with molina, even though it is never clearly shown, the scene cuts to a different scene, but it is obvious of what happened ?

shareYes, I wondered the same thing as I watched it tonight. They obviously did it, but it is very curious why Valentin agreed to do so, very unlike his character, really.

I think it is an acknowledgment by Valentin of just how much Molina has done (and may continue to do after his release) for him -- a gift (an expensive gift) -- given freely to what has become a close and dear friend. Too, so is the kiss the following morning.
sharei'm not sure if you read the book or not, but the two characters become lovers because Valentin becomes emotionally attached to Molina. Basically the two men transform each other, Valentin eventually succumbing to his emotional and physical desire for Molina, while Molina agrees to sacrifice himself for Valentin's political cause.
shareI haven't read the book. However, I think in this, I felt it was out of friendship, and not out of "love."
Peace, Love, and all that other hippy *beep*
It is explained very well by one particular line of dialogue, when Molina (Hurt) is in disbelief that a straight guy is willing to do it, so he tells Valentin (Julia) that he is "very kind" to do this, and Valentin stops and, very seriously, says "No, you are the one who is very kind"
Clearly, when Molina took care of him when he was sick and wiped the diarrhea off his butt without being disgusted, Valentin felt loved. One way to think about it is that he realized Molina really was more like a woman. The dialogue in the love scene mirrored the dialogue in the diarrhea scene: Each time the recipient of love is incredulous that the other does not find it disgusting.
"Enough of that technical talk, Foo!"
While Molina was secretly working with the prison warden, he also fell deeply in love with Valenin. He must have found the contradiction almost unbearable, and thus tried to do everything he could for Valentin, including cleaning up his messing his pants. In turn, Valentin, ill from the poison, probably depressed and desperate, and knowing his future was not very bright, eventually just wanted to experience the closeness and intimacy of another human being. Very moving.
