Three "Sleeper" Recommendations...

A slow-paced but very exciting "noirish" comedy, Jeff Goldblum is perfectly hilarious as the nerdy insomniac who unwittingly goes for a wild ride in the fast-lane with a hot babe (Michelle Pfieffer in perhaps her sexiest role) that everyone seems to be after, for one reason or another. If you enjoy it, I also recommend you check out "After Hours" with Rosanna Arquette and Griffin Dunne, with a very similar plot but equally entertaining - and last but not least "The Last Seduction" with Linda Fiorentino as the ultimate femme fatale (that you will never forget). These three flicks may be somewhat dated now, but are still a whole lot better than the predictable, formulaic drivel that Hollywood insists on releasing year after year.

Dear Sedunova:

Thanks for the great tip! I (along with every other member of the IMDB) owe you big time.

You're the best. (Hope you read this! even though it's a year and a half late)

"After Hours" was (for me) a little TOO dark. "Last Seduction" though was great--if completely evil:)

Ok must try and check out After Hours and Last Seduction.

Into the Night is in my top ten films ever - I would also recommend Ladyhawke, Three Amigos, Gotcha!, The Sure Thing, Wisdom, Best Seller and Some Kind of Wonderful (and Planes, Trains ..., but that's not so much a sleeper).

Ok, I'm a child of the 80s, but I agree as many of todays films leave me cold. I do recommend The Family Man, Behind Enemy Lines and Bound. Oh, and anything by Sylvester Stallone!!

Welcome back Rocky!
Cheers,

The only sleepers I can think of is Streets of Fire and The Apple. I'm a child of the 80s too--LOL

Miami Blues with Alec Baldwin is really good sleeper hit. It's an action/comedy with a really unique style and sense of humor.

Another film would be Something Wild with Melanie Griffith, Jeff Daniels and Ray Liotta. Jonathan Demme directed this really quirky comedy that takes several unexpected comic and not-so-comic twists throughout.

Johnny Handsome stars Mickey Rourke, Morgan Freeman, Ellen Barkin and Lance Henrikson in well made "film noir" style picture by action director Walter Hill.

All three films may be hard to find in your local video store but are well worth the search!

Something Wild almost seems to be two different films. It's one film up to the dance and then...the music changes and Ray Liotta appears. It's TERRIFYING and you don't know why and from then on, it's a whole different movie. Fantastic. I've never seen a film do that before. It's amazing. You really see each character for who he or she truly is after that moment, too. Lulu/Audrey goes from the free-spirited, wild, crazy gamine to being a terrified woman on the run from a psychopath. And Charles goes from being this ordinary yuppie to really being a superhero -- who still looks totally geeky -- but is truly, at his core, someone who is prepared to handle something that actually is utterly wild and unpredictable and dangerous -- and he's up for it. A total switch -- we'd think Lulu/Audrey could, but she can't. Charles can. Her "wildness" is silly and casual. It's Charles who is really the one who can survive and save himself and others from a situation that is a lot more than something that is just "something wild." I like this movie, but the moment it changes, when the music changes at the dance and we first here Roy's music -- that is just terrifying, but I like it. Wow -- this response is nearly 7 years in coming! Oh, well. So what? It fits.
