Editing?

This movie seemed like it had some potential but suffers from poor editing (amongst other things). Also, I have seen two distinctly different versions - was this film hacked up prior to release? This could explain the disjointed nature.

The editing isn't just poor...it's also really strange! It is disjointed, but it almost seems intentional? I have no idea what was going on there, but yes, wonky editing.

Hair so beautiful that even you, Inga, once asked if you could touch it!

reply

I disagree

The editing is years ahead of its time - fast forward to the Scream/Dawsons creek/H20 era to see what I mean

The film is very stylish in places Philippe Mora is no hack

The script and the werewolf effects are an insurmountable obstacle in this case

makes for a bl00dy enjoyable romp imho :)

Who called him a hack; and who says hacks cannot be stylish anyway?

I don't think the editing is ahead of its time. The stylized editing is very much a throwback to 70s cartoons. The editing that is strange is when it cuts from one scene to the next without the scene finishing.

He may not be a hack, but most certainly is a clod.

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

It's really hard to judge Mora's direction of "Howling II" because it was tampered with by the producers after the movie was finished. According to Mora, originally they wanted to make a humorous movie. But at the last minute, the producers decided they wanted a scary movie, so that's when it was transformed into its current form with all the wonky editing. He also said "'Howling II' is full of mistakes made by other people. 'Howling III' is full of my own." So yeah, it would be interesting to see "Howling II: Stirba - Werewolf Bitch" as made by Mora (and I wonder if that was the title on Christopher Lee's script).

I love the movie, but I agree it looked like it could have been edited a little better. The end credit sequence with all the flashbacks was awful.

Hacks cannot be stylish - style = quality - the two are mutually exclusive

There was nothing edited like this in the 80's - it was unique - and it was copied by the scream films (amongst others) in the late 90's

still a crapfest - but an interesting one

Worst editing ever! Not just the ending put how many times did they show that band playing? There was a scene in Stirba’s castle where there is an orgy and the band is apparently playing in that room. Problem is, it’s obviously just left over footage from the beginning and end. The band and audience are in the same bar and the werewolves are in another room. Also, Howling is a good song but it was played like 6 times during the movie. It’s so obvious! I think with the right editing, this movie could drastically improve. What a waste.

I noticed the same thing as well. That song was over used to the point where it became pretty funny. I bet that would make a cool drinking game, take a drink everytime you hear that song during the movie. I read earlier that this was suppose to be a funny spoof but decided to make it a horror movie. It wasn't scary but it sure was funny.
