Sequel or Remake?

Which is the most likely to happen?
Despite Sean Astin stating that there WILL be a sequel (he said this some time in 2012 or 2013) I personally can't see that happening.

It's obvious that there will be a remake, but how long until that happens?

I'd personally rather have a remake made than a direct-to-DVD sequel with just Corey Feldman returning. (Same scenario with the Lost Boys sequels)

What do you guys think? Roughly when will the inevitable remake likely happen and what would you rather happen? a cheap Direct-to-DVD sequel or a remake? (I say direct-to-DVD because I really can't see them making a decent sequel that will live up to the original and get a theatrical release.)

I'd rather it was just left alone but I can't see that happening...

I couldnt watch a remake,It has to star the originals. It will never replace the first movie,Even if the sequel wasnt good.We still have the original.Id rather much see a non so good sequel than a remake. They just need a good script.Pus just get Richard Donner and Steven to return

It would almost definitely be a great sequel if the original cast, Richard Donner and Spielberg returned. Even if that never happens, at least we still have the original, like you said.
I think another problem that comes with remaking the movie would be the inevitable string of sequels that would be dished out, in order to turn "The Goonies" into a film franchise...

If they couldn't release it in Threaters,They shouldnt release it at all. They just need a good script.Sean has said their has been several drafts for a sequel,I wonder what the plot is that being rejected?I just dont get WB,Why are they so hesitant on geting this made.

OK, so they ruined Transformers, GI Joe, Conan, Star Trek (whose movie heyday was in the 80s) and others 80s classics, and you think they would do well with a Goonies remake? Make a sequel which all of us who were alive in the 80s will go and see, or let it rest! Stop ruining my childhood favorites!

I agree 100% with that

Well I hope they do it while the actors are still alive, we no longer have Sloth or mama fratelli :(

Richard Donner just said a sequel is happening. He did not give any details other than he hoped the original cast returns.

If Kerri Green comes back, she needs to wear a short skirt again. And maybe go barefoot in a few scenes.

"Andy! You goonie!"

I like the way you think angrybeavers. Now, to google Kerri Green's feet....

So do you boys masturbate thinking about stinky, sweaty feet?

So I think if the original cast comes back then they will have to be parents with their kids being the main focus? Maybe one of the kids re-discovers the map and they go searching the tunnels for more treasure while the parents go after them because it's so dangerous? I'm not sure the movie would work if they go with a completely new concept and don't revisit the events that take place in the original.

OR maybe it will be a re-make and the original cast will just make cameos as parents or town's people. I certainly hope it is not a remake.

I saw Sean at Ottawa Comic Con earler this month and he revealed that Goonies 2 is underway, but they want it to have a script that warrants a sequel before they greenlight it. I'm fine with that as I'm sick of sequels, just for the sake of sequels making studios ore money on a property. He did say that he is onboard if they want him, and as far as he knows most of the original cast is as well. He also said he is unsure whether it would be about the Goonies or their kids.

Amen to that, I would rather them not do it at all then do a mess job like they did to all my childhood favorites...
