The Final Dance

Now don't get me wrong: I've loved this film since I was a kid, but as I've become older I've noticed that perhaps Natalie should have won the final contest based on the dances the two couples did.

Natalie's dance was actually quite good and involved some intricate moves, while Janey's dance relied solely on the Wow Factor of front and back flips.

While the flips looked quite cool at the time, surely they couldn't keep adding gymnastic moves to their routine forever (Keep in mind that the show is called "Dance TV")

There's no way I would have wanted Natalie to win (she wasn't very likeable) and her partner seemed to have the personality of a dish rag- BUT based on their performance, I think they did quite well.

What do you think ?

omg no!! Janey is way better! And how cam you even watch the final dance of Natalie's without hate and dislike? :D

reply

I agree with you, but she was the bad guy so she sucks! :)

Honestly, I thought the couple that was a regular on a Florida local show did the best job. I really liked Janey and Jeff's, but in no way could I ever say Natalie's was good. Her partner was good, but Natalie is a big, bad jerk face!

regarding OP: while I do think that Natalie was very good (adn the lift at the end was especially well done and spectacular) it was all about her, her, her.
I think the judges at the contest would have also been looking to make sure that the dancers worked well with each other and Natalie didn't with her guy at all. He was basically there to lift her and stuff.

Jeff and Janey won, perhaps not because they had the better moves, but because they both showed they can work well with another dancer. Which would be crucial on a show like Dance TV.

I kinda agree. They were doing gymnastics for the majority of their routine. It was called Dance TV after all. Natalie danced well, but she was just a bitch she didn't deserve to win.

The twins shouldn't have even been in it. They were looking for a boy/girl couple to match up with the other dancers. Don't know what they could have done when the dancing required lifts or any of the other moves that you need a guy for. 2 girls the same weight won't be able to handle it.

In the final dance, Natalie and her partner were COMPLETELY off beat. Janey and Jeff, however, wowed the judges with tumbling because not only did they show their versatility and a level of difficulty, but they were completely in sync.

To stick with OP ~ yes for final dance (alone ~ not looking into all the dances). That final one it should have been given to Natalie from her lift and jump it was much better than some flipping around the stage. But of course the stars (Janey and Jeff) had to win no matter how badly their dancing was. But they should have had the other actors (who played Natalie and her dance partner) tone their dancing down. Ironically both of those actors were known to have had ballet in their background which is the reason for the way there moves were compared to the hip hop style (which made the 80's) that SJP and her co~mate provided.

As I originally said, of course I didn't want Natalie to win- the whole point of the movie was for Janey to win !

Faeria makes a good point about Janey and Jeff having more chemistry.

I've watched the movie yesterday again and I have to say comparing the short solos of Natalie and Janey, Janey's is way more difficult. The partner scenes - both are difficult. I also always thought the flips might not have been as much "dancing" as Natalie's lift and drop, but overall the flips and screws are still a bit more impressive stunts to me and I think Janey and Jeff did deserve it (not only because they were obviously supposed to win and I wanted them to win as the "good guys"). They had dance scenes as well where the moves were really cool. The other dancers of the rest of the competition were also really good, but in the movie of course the main characters have to be in the finals.

I agree with whoever said Janey's individual little solo was better than Natalie's. It definitely was. Natalie did a few turns but then Janey came out doing them better and hers were much more difficult. The part at the end of the dance off where Janey goes "Let's do it," always bugs me too though because all they do is like somersaults/flips, not dance lol. But they were in like crazy sync. I agree that the Florida couple were just as good as Janey/Jeff and Natalie and her partner though.

I do kind of agree that it was too much tumbling....I also felt it was unbelievable that Jeff learned a full twisting back layout in the space of a few weeks with no prior gymnastics training. Practicing flips off of tree branches? Dangerous and doesn't work past the age of 7.

Sometimes the difference between self-amusement and self-actualization is less than you think.
