Lynne had no other friends?
The Lynne character (Helen Hunt)...so apparently she had no friends before Janey (SJP) moved to town, and Janey became her only friend? Just an observation.
shareI think Lynne was very lonely before Janey arrived. She was the 'strange' one, the non-conformist, the outsider, at the Catholic School. She probably didn't have any friends until Janey arrived.

in fairness she's at a private school....where everybody is supposed to 'conform'. It's not like public where the teachers give you more space to be yourself. maybe her prior friend graduated/moved away....and she was lonely.
