Why Didn't They Use Cyndi Lauper's Song Version??????

Cyndi Lauper's hit song GIRLS JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN, which inspired the title of this movie, was a great song. It was one of those signature 80's songs like Madonna's Like A Virgin. This 80's anthem song should definitely have been used for this movie. Instead they have some other singer singing it. It's a crying shame that they didn't use Cyndi Lauper's original version for this song. It is HER song. She sang it for the first time, she worked on the song, she did the music video for it which was a hit on MTV. It must have killed Cyndi that they didn't use her version for this movie. The song was used only briefly but it should have definitely been Cyndi's voice we should have heard.

Also, I love that they used other 80's hit songs like DANCING IN HEAVEN ORBITAL BEBOP, but damn, poor Cyndi Lauper! This was her song being used for the title of a movie!

I thought she didn't allow them to use her song.

I was only a kid in the 80's and so didn't know behind the scenes stuff about movies or music. However I'd love to know what's up with this movie and the Cyndi Lauper song.

The title is clearly going to make 80's audiences think of the Cyndi Lauper song. Why would she not want her song with her voice be played in a movie ? A lot of 80's singers were happy to have their music in movies and a lot of great 80's movie hits played hit songs especially John Hughes movies such as the songs used at the end of Breakfast Club (Don't You Forget Abut Me) and at the end of Pretty In Pink. A lot of other 80's hit songs were used in Girls Just Want To Have Fun at the Dance TV finale. Footloose, Flash Dance, Dirty Dancing, all of them contained great 80's hits. Madonna promoted herself in 80's movies like Who's That Girl.

Cyndi should have allowed them to play her song. It's so weird she didn't. There's gotta be some back story to this that involves Cyndi Lauper. Cyndi was a huge star in the 80's.

They would have but there was some legal issue, something to do with licensing.

^This. They were able to get the rights to use her song but not her version of it. So they had to have a cover done, which is what they used for the movie.

Hope you're apple pie is freakin' worth it!

To be honest, I LOVE Cyndi Lauper, but I thought this version was really good too.
