revealing mistake (anyone notice???)

ok, I have seen this movie many times and just got finished watching it again.....and I noticed something that I have never noticed before! In the scene where Shannon Doherty and Jonathan Silverman were at the mall and he was getting fitted for his suit, Shannon Doherty says "Hey, there's Jess Parker and that cool girl."......and then she proceeds to call them over. Instead of calling her by her name in the movie which is Janey, she calls her Jess Parker. Did anyone else catch that? Or is it just me? Or do I have a messed-up copy of the movie? lol

reply

I think she says "Hey, there's Jeff's partner and that cool girl".......makes more sense.

reply

thank you, what you said made sooooo much sense. so i went and looked at it again, i replayed that part like 50 times lol and i turned the volume way up, she clearly says Jess Parker though LOL.....i thought that you were probably right and that i misheard it, because Jeff's partner would fit perfectly, but she actually does say Jess Parker.

reply

Ok.. I will have to re-watch it. Thanks!

reply

She says Jeff's partner.

reply

I re-watched it and she really does say Jeff's partner.

reply

Yep, exactly! I always heard it as "Jeff's partner."

reply

no it's Jeff's partner and that cool girl. but it does sort of sound like what you said but your wrong.

reply

i watched it to and she says jeffs partner and that cool girl..

reply

Thank you!

reply

Would closed captioning help here? Is it not closed captioned? I haven't seen the movie in a long time, but I'm pretty sure she says "Jeff's partner." But now I'm going to have to watch it.

reply

u can still use closed captioning but on ur tv and thats what i did and like i already said she says jeffs partner....

reply

i can see that you people have no idea how closed captioning works.
an independent person is hired to type what they hear in the movie.
i have seen many movies where the closed captions are NOT what is said.
and i think that some of you might want to clean your ears so you can hear things properly, because i was right in my original post. she does say "Jess Parker"...watch her lips and listen closely as to what she says.
i know this to be true. it's called research. some of you people might want to do research before you comment on something that you obviously have no idea of.
i will not come back to this board to check any further messages...so talk away.

reply

ur the one who cant hear she says jeff's partner closed captioning is never wrong .............i should know i have seen this movie a billion times...i dont care if you come back or not..the only reason is because ur wrong..

reply

Closed captioning is OFTEN wrong. Personally I don't care what she says but I do care when someone says closed captioning is never wrong... if you think that is the case, you need to use closed captioning AND listed at the same time and see what happens... ie in the news.

Just watched that part too- her head was turned to the side so it is hard to really see clearly what she is saying but I thought she did a little of both her lips never came together for the "f" in Jeff so it was "Jess" but there was clearly a "n" in the second word, not a "k" so I think she messed up and said "Jess partner". Editors probably figured since her head was turned, why bother redoing the shot?

I find it funny how she went from calling them "jeff's partner (as what was actually meant) and that cool girl" to the next second call them Janey and Lynn acting like sisters and never really met them prior to that!

reply

its definitely jeff's partner. and yeah i get what you mean about them being really friendly all of a sudden!!

Slag off Shannen Doherty and you have me to deal with!! I <3 SD

reply

OMG! I have also seen this movie billions of times and i have always thought she said "hey, there's Jess Parker and that cool girl!" I thought it was a mistake! I'll have to watch it again. When i do, i'll post again. But i swear it sounds like Jess Parker.

I love this movie, seen it probably 100 times. I always thought she said "Jeff's partner." So for the op who thinks she says "Jess Parker"... why would anyone call Sarah Jessica Parker that anyway? I've never heard that is a nickname she goes by so why would Shannon Doherty say that? Just my thoughts on the matter...

Captions have always had mistakes -- usually they are right on, but you'll get at least one or two glitches per movie.

reply

No need for me to chime in here...but I watched that movie at least 10 times as a kid and I'm pretty sure the line is "there's JEFF'S PARTNER and that cool girl!" I can't believe Helen Hunt was in that!

reply

People are going to argue about what it's really saying. Me personally, I think it would be "Jeff's Partner", because if she accidently messed up and said "Jess Parker", then they would have made her do the scene over again.

And another thing, Why would she call her "Jess Parker"? It's "Sarah Jessica Parker".

Not to mention, "Jeff's Partner" makes more sense than "Jess Parker".

But that's the way I see it.

And there's no reason to throw a fit about it. No one really cares whether you come back or not. It sounds like you realize you're wrong. You're just one of those people who have a hard time admitting you're wrong.

Not to sound mean, but the original poster is an idiot. I first saw this movie when I was, like, 11 or 12, and just saw it again last night, and have ALWAYS known the line to be "Hey, there's Jeff's partner and that cool girl!" which it clearly is. Not only does it make sense because Janey is Jeff's dance partner, but nobody calls SJP Jess, anyway. If that was the case, why didn't she just say "Hey, there's Jess Parker and Helen Hunt!"

reply

FOR REAL...I JUST SAT HERE READING ALL THE POSTS ON THIS SUBJECT AND ALL I CAN DO IS SHAKE MY HEAD. CLEARLY SHE IS SAYING "JEFF'S PARTNER". LAST TIME I CHECKED SHANNEN DOHERTY DIDN'T HAVE A SPEECH IMPEDIMENT AND SARAH JESSICA PARKER IS CALLED SARAH BY HER FRIENDS...NOT JESS. AS FOR WHY MAGGIE MALENE ACTS LIKE SHE KNOWS JANEY AND LYNNE...SHE WAS LIKE 12 YEARS OLD...SHE WANTED TO GET TO KNOW THESE "COOL" GIRLS WHO WERE SUDDENLY FRIENDS WITH HER OLDER BROTHER WHOM SHE CLEARLY IDOLIZED. HAS NO ONE EVER BEEN 12 BEFORE AND WANTED TO HANG OUT WITH THE COOL TEENAGE GIRLS? CAN'T BELIEVE THERE WERE 3 PAGES DEVOTED TO THIS SUBJECT!

reply

Closed Captioning is OFTEN wrong. Subtitles however are RARELY wrong. Subtitles on a movie are done by someone who listens to the movie, with final shooting script in hand to ensure accuracy. Closed Captioning is not nearly has involved - if it's for the news it is often typed as someone is speaking - which can lead to a lot of errors.

That being said. The line is - Jeff's Partner and that cool girl.

reply

I don't need to go back--I have seen it a thousand times and she says "Jeff's partner."

However there have been mistakes like that in movies that were let go--I think it's Days of Thunder...some broad in the movie calls Tom Cruise "Tom" instead of Alex (or whatever his character's name was) and they left it in the final cut of the film.

And subtitles are usually right but sometimes they are a bit off...and you can get combos! Like the movie High Fidelity. Catherine Zeta-Jones refers to a character mentioned in the movie. His name was "Marco" but she calls him "Rocko" by mistake, it is very obvious BUT the subtitles still say "Marco."

Haha, what a long thread for this.
