Anybody only see this for the first time relatively recently?

I was born in 1983 and saw it when I was like 5 so it will always have that magical childhood thing that makes it so good. I'm wondering what people who see it for the first time recently think? And by recently I mean not as a child in the 80s but the 90s or 2000s as a teen or adult. Its always had this hypnotic quality about it, from the makeup to the story line, to Chris Sarandon's performance...who as a straight male I'll say that was one smooth MFer. If a guy wants a lesson on how to be sexy...watch Fright Night. So, opinions from newer viewers?

I know exactly what you mean. I was a freshman in high school when I first saw it. I remember specifically, I saw it on a Saturday, a few days before Valentine's Day back in 2000. It changed my life. I fell in love with it and I sparked my creativity in writing. I wanted to continue the film's mythology but I ended up starting my own series that would take please in the same universe. I make references to it, sometimes subtle and sometimes direct.

Just finished watching it! I'm a teenager, and I loved it. Definitely noticed the hypnotic quality that you're talking about.

I just saw this film for the first time on Netflix, somehow I never saw it during the 80s. I think the is-he-or-isn't-he aspect of the film is pretty clever, but overall I found the movie slow and boring, and the acting was awful. Amanda Bearse was nearly 30 years old when she made this film, and she looks it, playing a teenager was a real stretch.

I disagree with this and I'm sure the majority of others do too, but you're no doubt entitled to your opinion.

Watched it this morning.

Nearly 30? That must be the dumbest crap posted on this board. The film was shot in the spring and summer of '84. Amanda Bearse was 25 when this was made. 5 year prior she was a TEENAGER!

What are you? 15 yeqrs old, since you compare a 25 year old to a 30 year old?

reply

She was nearer to 30 than she was a teenager.

I agree. For a horror, it wasn't scary, and for a comedy it wasn't funny. Give me a good horror like The Thing or Alien any day. Some kids are just easy to please I guess.

I'm 22, and just saw it for the first time last night. I loved it to pieces. It might be because it reminds me a little of The Lost Boys, which is one of my all time favorite films, but it was pretty damn great, and really funny. I wasn't scared by it (not that i expected to be) but vampire's rarely scare me. But it's a great film, great effects for the time period and i really liked the characters. McDowall as Peter Vincent was ace. He, and Evil Ed were the most enjoyable characters, in my opinion :)

I actually saw the remake before the original, and i prefer the original. I'm not anti-remakes, not at all, and i don't think that the 2011 version is god-awful or anything, but it lacks the charm that the original has. I haven't seen the sequel, though.

Just saw it today for the first time, pretty fun stuff if you're in the mood.

I'm 21 and I saw it for the first time last year! I'd seen the remake before I'd seen the original which I hate doing, I always like to watch the original first, but luckily my enjoyment wasn't taken away! I really liked it and thought it was a great movie, I'm not going to lie, I did enjoy the remake too, but the original did have a different sort of charm to it which I did really like. Plus I'm a sucker for an 80s movie! I like the dark humour of it and the fact that the vampires are what I consider proper vampires, as in they're actually evil and killing people!

'You people. If there isn't a movie about it, it's not worth knowing, is it?'

I was born in '82 & love the films I grew up with; i.e., Ghostbusters, Karate Kid, Back to the Future, but I've recently started watching the films I should've but never saw. I just finished Fright Night & was blown away by it. What an awesome film. Another awesome vampires film I watched a few nights ago was "The Lost Boys." I called my older brother and bitched him out for never introducing these films to me like he did the Evil Dead series or UHF.

I'm 27, and I saw this for the first time today. I thought it was a good movie (I rated it 7 out of 10), especially Chris Sarandon (amazing) and Roddy McDowall.
