There was a sequel: Fletch Lives. I saw it in the theatre.

Actually like the sequel for its quirkiness and amusing moments:

-Fletch in Jail

-Bikers Bar scene

-beautiful Southern gal who dies too early

-Hal Holbrook

-Lee Ermey(seen to be believed)

-Cleavon Little

-etc

The sequel is different markedly than the first-but it stores entertainment Value >>>

I saw the sequel first and actually like it more than the original. That might be why, but I think it flows better. Reboot for sure. And like another poster said, Ryan Reynolds would be perfect. But the movie would be too low key for him nowadays. Of course I forgot about the Green Lantern. Yea, Fletch reboot would be a good low key return to snappy dialogue.
