Ted Nugent ?

Why he said his name is Ted Nugent? I mean, this is '85.. Ted Nugent was still in the top of his career, and no doubt very well known.

- He moves his lips when he reads. What does that tell you about him?

Only Fletch is oh-so hip and the only one able to grasp his pop culture references. Ted Nugent, Igor Stravinsky, G. Gordon Liddy, everyone that Fletch encountered never had a clue that he was dropping names.

If you look closely after Fletch gives the name "Ted Nugent", you see Alan Stanwyk kind of stop and react to it, almost like a half double-take (guess that makes it a "take" :-)). He was probably thinking that this junkie off the beach was trying to be funny.

reply

Agree with Funkster.

Some of the aliases he uses, the people ARE oblivious because they're not very intelligent. Others get it on whatever level their intelligence allows (Marvin and Velma Stanwyks believe the story that his parents were fans of Truman, Alan assumes Fletch is giving him a BS name because he's a homeless drifter).

Wait ... so you're saying it's actually possible for someone other than Ted Nugent to have the name "Ted Nugent?" No way!

What's next? Someone else named Bryan Adams? Or Ryan Adams????

bruce springsteen!

The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity.

I'm not convinced that Alan really knew who Ted Nugent was (at least not by the actor's reaction, which could have been a couple of things). Alan was an Ivy League type who more than likely eschewed rock music for classical or standards. While it's possible the reaction to the name could have been that he knew his chain was being pulled, it's also possible that the name sounded a bit familiar, but he couldn't place it.

It is bad to drink Jobu's rum. Very bad.

strntz I think is the closest one yet. His look is somewhere between, "Wait a minute" and "Are you shi..ing me?" He just doesn't really know what to think of this guy, which makes it the perfect reaction, b/c we find out later he was only using him as a fall guy anyway.
