How did Alan's parents not know about Gail?

With the high profile job (and clearly media documented) he had at Boyd Aviation how was Alan able to hide his second marriage from his parents? His wedding was in the paper not to mention plenty of clippings of him at various events with Gail.

good question. i always thought it was unrealistic.

It is 1985 ya know.

yep same year i was born of all years however all the same it could be 1955 im sure and news papers, advertisements etc of some kind were all in vogue and accessible to most of the public.

after all no one is saying everyone here had to have an iphone or tablet.

only argument that could me made is old marvin and wifey don't get out much and just keep to themselves a WHOLE lot. is possible in that regard i will admit. still unlikely as again when regarding alan's status and it happens to be their doted son.

he was sure a player.

Did you see their house? No hint of Alan helping them out financially. I'd be shocked if they had a tv in there.

reply

there is no reason why they couldn't see it in a paper and of course they would have a TV. They lived on a farm, they weren't hermits or amish

reply

It wasn't in a Utah paper.

reply

Well the movie takes a huge dump on Utah and the people who live there, so I think it's implied that Stanwyk's parents (and anyone else from Utah for that matter) has no idea what goes on on the outside world.

The reality is completely different of course, but hey why work hard when you can just crap on people from Utah?

I don't think it was so much said as implied. Especially the guy watching Sally Ann's house.
