Tatoo on Martin´s arm?

did 16th century europeans have those? in some scenes you can see a tatoo covered up in make-up on the left arm, but a colorful one in the right is very visible.
never mind the goofs, I wonder if it was possible

Tattooing has been around since neolithic times.

The one Rutger sported in this movie was a glaring consistency error, in my opinion, as it was obvious a modern tattoo.
