Question

I have just seen the movie and I have a question. At the end, when everybody is leaving the castle and the other horrible-pig of Martin's band stops Agnes from leaving ... does he rape her too? I don´t know, because he says something to her and then he is touching her and stuff and she is like...numb. So I just don´t know. I hope somebody can tell me... I was very confused.

I don't think he has enough time to rape her. Plot-wise, it doesn't make any sense for the gentleman to rape her, because she belongs to Martin or Stephen only. If ever she was raped by someone else, it should be plot-relevant and therefore on-screen. My 2 cents.

No Agnes wasn't raped at that time. According to Paul Verhoeven it wasn't meant to be intimated. it should be noted that in the brutal gang-rape scene earlier, Martin does cut it short by causing a fire. There is also the insinuation that when Martin and Agnes make love in the bath, it may be her first time.

reply

Thanks. I wasn´t really sure because that guy tried to be with her the whole movie so I thought he could have taken advantage of the situation when Martin was no longer there to stop him.

reply

As some other person thoughtfully said, during the initial gang rape, Martin prevents another intercourse to happen with the arson; when the Gentleman tries to get a blowjob in the car after offering sausage to Agnes, Martin again prevents this to happen, stopping the car, and changing direction. It suggests that Agnes never has sex with anyone than Martin.

It's discussed in another post, but Agnes is not a virgin in the bath. At the end of the gang-rape, she bleeds.

Oh, wait. My question was about one scene nearly at the end when everybody is leaving the castle because they drank the water infested with the plague. They are taking all sort of things and Agnes is leaving and he stops her. It’s really short. It’s just a moment when we can see he is holding her and kissing her neck and feeling her up. Then the whore who was Martin's woman dies. I'm not talking about the gang rape scene.

reply

Ya, I know what scene you meant. I think that guy didn't rape Agnes for the simple reason that he didn't have time enough. Right after we see the gang gathering again (what's left of it), Celine dying and than it was a scene with Martin and Agnes.

reply

I don't think he raped her at that moment, but it was certainly implied that he was planning on it in the near future. He was planning to "claim" her as his woman as soon as they got clear of the castle and on with their gypsy lives. Luckily for her that didn't happen.

But in regard to the other times, here's what I've always understood: Martin has sex with her first. Then Summer (the other guy) gets as far as entering her during the gang rape scene, but Martin stops him from finishing the act with the fire. But in the later scene, when she's tied up in the cart and Summer offers her food, then threatens her with the knife, he does rape her then. It's possible that once again he doesn't finish, because Martin stops and changes direction. Finally, in the bathtub scene between Martin and Agnes, I think that's supposed to be the first time she has an orgasm.
