Wow, this movie didn't make much money
I was just reading the business data of this film and read that it only grossed $100,000 at the box office. I am wondering why.

Because some riligous freaks down in the bible belt refuse to come out of the 12. century and join the 21.!
It was a huge hit on video, though, especially in europe, where the UR-version was the only version available from the start. It did pretty decend here in cinemas, too, AFAIR.

It bombed at the box office because this movie doesn't care to insult the audience. I.E., it presents a bleak, girtty, amoral world in which the main characters are motivated by greed, lust, hatred (in other words, everything EXCEPT chivalry and heroism), and there is no certainty of a happy ending. That's the long and short end of it.

In other words: the movie depicts reallity as it was and ppl came and expected some nice swordplay movie. And especially Americans can`t handle reallity particulary in Denny Pattyn county.

Personally, I prefer the grittiness and realism.
