i had a taped copy of this when i was a kid and the scenes on the dvd were intact in the film.
but there was one other scene thats stuck in my mind that im sure ive seen but i cant remember if it was on my tape or on a hired copy - ethan hawke and amanda peterson kissing in a basement on an old couch. i know the scene exists coz it was in the picture book that my old library had when i was a kid.
does anyone else remember this scene or seen the picture book?

Ok, it's very very common for people to say they are absolutely certain they've seen something from when they are a kid, but never be able to back it up with anything other than the memory itself. This is because when you're young your mind can 'fill in blanks' much more than as an adult, so when you see something as simple as a picture, your mind would tie it into the film and sort of insert the imagined scene as if it was there (when I say 'you' I don't mean just you, but everyone).
Now, as to the question, yes the scene is shown in the picture book, but no, it wasn't in the theatrical, home video, TV, or international release versions. There were several scenes used in the picture book (and the storybook) that didn't make the final cut. They were promotional materials and didn't really tally with the finished product. reply share
If I remember correctly the kiss takes place ouside during a birthday party for Lori. And Ben is given the knock back. The scene has never been in any cut of the movie but is featured in the novelisations. There is also another scene in the picture book in which Wolfgang's little brother discovers the Thunder Road. Again this failed to make any cut of the movie.
That's right. Ben gives her a ring with a martian rock in it. The scene is part of a much larger chunk of cut film that also includes an argument between the boys after the party (also shown in the picture book).
