Greatest discovery of the 21st century?

Not that I was looking, but I always figured I'd seen what 80s kids movies had to offer. I didn't know this film existed until about a week ago. Started watching on YouTube and was so blown away by the flying through the clouds scene, that I forced myself to wait until the DVD came in at the library.

This movie was amazing!! I wish I'd grown up with it, but I'm so glad I found it. I'd read through this message board during my "discovery" and so expected the 2nd half of the film to be a major let-down... and it was tough going at first, but the dad scene and the spaceship backing up and the gears shifting loudly (reminding me of how my dad drives) was so funny, it more than made up for the awkward TV pollution/pedagogy scenes, which definitely through me off and weren't at all what I was expecting.

The film definitely felt unfinished, but reading up on it, I have a better feel for it, and I sympathize with Joe Dante a bit. But by far the best movie I've "discovered" in the new millennium, simply because I thought I'd run the 80s through to the ground. Apparently Joe Dante made quite a few films I've never seen.
