Zammis's accent

Why does Zammis speak English with a Drak accent?

The only being he's ever met is Davidge, who taught him English. So he should speak with an American accent, the way he learned it from Davidge. In fact, he should even speak Drak with an American accent.

There is the possibility that what is perceived like an accent is not. Could be that the way a Drac speaks is heavily influenced by the form of his mouth. Think of a how a kid tlak when he has breakers in over his teeth compared as how he speaks without them. What should be amazing is how convenient was that dracs where able to actually speak in a way a human could understand.

Good point, except that Zammis also uses the same stilted grammar that Jeri used -- the kind you'd expect from someone whose native language is not English -- not the normal conversational tone he would have learned from Davidge.

Maybe Davidge taught Zammis To speak Drak First, and then taught Zammis english....a long shot I know but a possibility.

Sometimes you just need to suspend your disbelief (or sense of logic) for a film.

There are plenty of things in the real world that make no sense at all. Let's address those issues before we pick apart the stilted speech of a little reptile-boy-girl who talks funny because he/she has a forked tongue and breathes through his/her skin and will one day become spontaneously pregnant and die.

To me it sounded more like Zammis spoke English with an indian/pakistani accent!

i think I have to agree that Zammis was bi-lingual and the only reason *it* had an accent was because of the shape of its mouth, etc.
Also, sometimes one accent to fully pronounce words carries over into the other language. I do this from time to time when I spend a lot of time practicing an accent (it's an actor thing lol) - I go back to my natural accent & some words just come out weird unintentionally.... as if my mind is still wanting to go back to one of the other accents.
? Maybe that's why Zammis had an odd accent ?
