Pregnant Dracs

Do all Dracs die giving birth or was jerry an anamoly?

reply

Pretty sure it's an anomaly. I think he would have taught Davidge more had he known he'd die. Plus, he tells Davidge during labor that "something's wrong."

Someone should go teach them how to change the channel.

reply

I agree that it's not normal simply because "Jerry" said "something's wrong" which infers parents don't die during birth...otherwise pain & death would've already been associated with the process and "nothing would've been wrong" in that case to *begin with*.

His parents were still alive on their home planet, so I guess not.

reply

Yeah I think there was some kind of complication or he'd fallen ill on the planet or something.

Question: How does the baby drac come out?? Where?? And how does the Drac parent heal?

It's not a dumb question.

Jerry said his original plan was to attend the ceremony with Zammis back on their home planet, so they must often make it. And if every birth resulted in a death the population would go down, since some would die before giving birth.

It's more likely that Dracs often died during childbirth without medical attention, just like many human women die during childbirth without medical attention. And like people said, Jerry knew he has in trouble once he entered labor.

Yes, an anomaly. Jerry knew something was wrong, and the birth of Zammis was the Drac equivalent to where something goes horribly wrong during a human birth and an emergency c-section has to be done. It is mentioned at the end of the movie that Zammis lived to bring hir own child to the holy council. And Jerry's parent was still alive in the longer, "scrapped" version.

I assume during a normal Drac birth the child just comes out... somewhere. LOL.

Btw, I notice everyone seems to call Jerry "he"... Jerry was neither male or female, Dracs don't have genders.
