The sandtrap monster always scared me when I was a younger dude!

I agree, I've seen this when I had just been allowed to watch the more violent/scary movies in my father's collection and that thing really creeped me out. I also thought the alien looked pretty good.

The giant sand creature used to freak me out, Everytime the tentacle came ominously out of the sand, I used to pull my legs up on the sofa!

The tips of the tentacles were actually re-used as tentacles on the alien at the beginning of Men In Black. When the alien spins around and screams, the tentacles all fly out and you can see the little leaf-like tips with the nobs around the edges.

Maybe they found some old props or something?
