Classic film needs special edition

At least it exists on dvd, but the current U.S. release leaves a lot to be desired. The picture is ok, the sound is adequate but in some places the dialog is too low at times. Special features that would be nice to see would be a Director's commentary, some making of features, and some educational features about the rain forest and the fight to preserve it. Most importantly though, I'd like to see better sound (DTS would sure be nice) and better native subtitles (there is some dialogue where subtitles are missing). Also, regular English subtitle support throughout the film would be nice. This movie features stunning scenery and a beautiful soundtrack that deserves first-class treatment. Overall, the current dvd is worth having as in this case it truly is better than nothing at all and better than an old vhs copy, but this film deserves a special dvd treatment. Having just seen the powerful, moving film Apocalypto by Mel Gibson, I still greatly prefer The Emerald Forest. Thanks John Boorman for such a wonderful film that holds up so nicely after all these years. A double feature of John Boorman's The Emerald Forest and Jean-Jacques Annaud's Quest For Fire is a great way to spend some time.

I couldn't agree with you more. I just bought this film last week because it was the very first movie I have ever saw on the big screen.
The sound is terrible indeed, and I would appreciate some extras too.
