The best film of all time...

i replied below to ensign - but I want my message heard - boorman did an excellent job here - this is my most consuming film of all time and IFC is showing it all weekend! This is a film worth buying and believing in!

Boorman does it without the in your face cataclysmic end of humanity view - he does it subtley - showing us what we are losing - what will come to pass. Who cares if the languages are made up? Who cares if the message can be construed as simplistic? The final analysis is comprehensive - only 120K indigenous peoples were left in 85, how many now in 2005?

I plan on leaving in Oct 2005 - I plan to live in the jungles - not to breed my western ways with the indians left, but assimilate with them. No religion, no medicine - no beliefs. I plan to leave all that behind and learn what it is like to live free - like Tomme. i don't want my life - I want theirs. Boorman did that to me in 1985 and drives me to do it now.

This film is worth seeing now - as it was then. See this film, see the mysticism, see the morals & principles, see the motive.

You will love the message, the cinematography, the viewpoint. You will become a believer in leaving in our ways for theirs... just as I am.

Charley boorman - if I could pick your brain I would just to find out what it was like filming this movie - it completely changted my world - it's the only reason I became a drug addict and am leaving for south america to be clean forever. T

I agree! I just watched this movie this morning on IFC. It was great to watch! I just finished reading a novel by Daniel Quinn called Ishmael, which I recommend if you haven't read it already! Are you really moving to the jungle? I wouldn't even know how to do something like that. I didn't even think it was even possible. Is there any place left?

If I had a nickel for every cigarette your mom smoked, I'd be dead.

I only caught the tail end of this film, also on IFC, and plan to watch the full movie at my next available opportunity.

Just in case anyone is interested, it's playing again on these times/dates:

The gift of fantasy has meant more to me than my talent for absorbing positive knowledge

Guess it takes all kinds.

Go "Bungle in the Jungle"

reply

yes it does take all kinds and thanks to the gods for that...

without all kinds, just think, there'd be no movies or stories to tell...

without all kinds- we'd be a boring, limited group of people...

This was one of my favorite movies as a little kid if not my favorite. I havent seen it in so long though. I am going to have to check this out sometime again.

reply

I do not believe this is the best film of all time based upon the plot or filmography of it...it's the best because of the message it gave.

reply

Pray tell: what was the message?

That drugs don't tell you enough
so you have the climb up the side of
the building?

That arms and violence overcome criminals
after all?

That a father's love overrides everything?

What message?

reply

So iamme1270... Are you clean now? Did you ever make it to South America? Did you meet any indians?

reply

Hey dude! Did you go or what? Were you one of those guys throwing spears at the airplane in those photos of the undiscovered Amazon tribe, that were out last month?

If you just got back, you should check out the movie "Into the Wild". It may inspire you to go on another journey.
