it was commonplace in Italian horror cinema during the 70's and 80's to shoot the movies in the English language with just about any actor they could find... the entire movie would always be dubbed too... this allowed for recording in practically any location and at any time as any noise on the set or external disturbances would not matter in the end...
this helped make the productions much cheaper to shoot as you could film next to a noisy industrial work site at 10am in the morning for example if you absolutely had to as all audio used in the final film would be dubbed by actors & foley artists alike once the shots had been assembled into a workprint
it also helped with non-englsh speaking actors as you could get someone who looked the part but didn't speak the language and just hire an english speaking voice-actor to dub the voice in post production... a great example of this is in Dario Argento's film "Suspiria" where the lead character (played by Jessica Harper - an American actress) visits a professor to discuss witches... the actor who plays the professor (Rudolf Schundler) did not speak english at all so they did their scene together delivering their lines in their own languages (i.e. Jessica Harper did all of her lines in English but Rudolf Schundler delivered every single one of his lines in German which was difficult to film for obvious reasons... see the following trivia from the Suspiria pages:
"In an interview with star Jessica Harper, she said that many of the actors on set spoke different languages during shooting. According to Harper most either spoke Italian or German and it would make communicating difficult at times. However since the film would be dubbed for American release it was deemed not to be an issue during filming."
"According to star Jessica Harper since the film was going to be dubbed after principle photography, sound was rarely recorded during shooting. Harper remarked that it was strange to her to be in the middle of shooting a scene and hearing the background sound of a stage hand hammering away on another set in the studio."
