Demons - Remake

Here's a possible shot in the dark for everyone to chew over. How about Samuel L. Jackson to essay the role of Tony the pimp! I adore the first Demons, like many have written previously, this movie was a staple of my viewing habits when I was a teenager and all I did was watch a constant stream of horror movies.

The reason I mention Samuel L. Jackson is simple, I was watching 'Deep Blue Sea' the other night and it still rocks for being a total outrageous movie, and it got me thinking when Jackson was giving his speech just before he bought it, I started thingking about his turn in Pulp Fiction and the way he bellowed throughout the movie, my instant reaction was Jackson would be perfect as Tony The Pimp!

Now as for the rest of the casting?

NO REMAKE.

reply

YES, REMAKE! My God film snobs are the lowest form of life. Ok, I exagerate a bit (not really)

It is useless to resist us.

reply

Actually the lowest forms of life are those (like you) that think their view is right and those who differ from the path chosen by the self righteous ones are wrong.

reply

Film snob!....(gag)hey, but what do I know? I'm just part of the "ignorant MTV masses" Seriously, do you hear yourself?

It is useless to resist us.

reply

Yes Remake, don't like it, don't watch it.

reply

oh get off you high horse. I bet you're the type of person when a film is released, you're the first to write a review and bitch and complain about minor details. I agree, you are probably are the lowest form of life. P.S you mom has an arse that won't quit.

reply

I totally agree. Movies like this need a remake. Or at least a video game version.

reply

First of all: NO REMAKE!! Demoni is great the way it is, we don't need no Michael Bay MTV buddy remaking this.

Now, about your question. Jackson seems a little bit old, although he would certainly can do it, I think Ving Rhames would be cool (or maybe LL Cool J).

reply

Demons is not a masterpiece.
It was pretty good for it's
time but it could be done
even better today.

And some of the special
effects in Demons 2
were pretty weak.

The demon dog,the gremlin
like creature and the mannequin
falling from the building...
all this stuff simply wouldn't be
accepted by today's audiences.

reply

Well I didn't say it was. It's just a great horror movie and fun as hell.

Anyway, I don't think it can be done today, certainly it can be filmed but (besides some french and japanese directors) horror directors today don't understand the genre at all and they would be unable to input the right spirit in it.
IMHO.

reply

I disagree about American directors being unable to to understand the genre. Rodriguez for example is very mainstream, but understands *beep* horror cinema almost better than anyone.

reply

"And some of the special

who cares, watch the original anyhow

"all this stuff simply wouldn't be
accepted by today's audiences."

who cares about today's audiences? they suck.

Demonsface - staring Al Pacino.

Al Pacino with an M4A1 going postal on the demons and him swearing like a trooper while he does it. It would bring flash backs of Scarface.

It's a good flick, but masterpiece is stretching it. And Ving Rhames for Tony!

You got it right Trioxin.

I don't think that I could stomach another Hollywood bullshyt remake. Demons is a great horror movie, and NOBODY could replace Tony the Pimp - EVER.

Well, scrod-la-dah. I can pee again!

Actually, I would love a remake. Directed by James Cameron.

That is all.

The jokes is that james cameron would never direct the remake, therefore no remake.

reply

Lamberto Bava from what I read somewhere online [can't remember where] isn't interested in a remake. But if we hook up with Lamberto Bava and get our ideas together for a *beep* kick arse remake. None of this lame batty boy Hollywoodised style of crap. A real movie. One that does the original proud. I honestly think Lamberto would be interested as he would see it wasn't ruining the good name the first two movies have.

A remake done BY FANS for fans of the movie. These *beep* movie making poser bastards that pretend they are fans of the original when making a remake are a joke. They are not fans, they just say that to get the fans of the original to watch their sh_t arsed remake. Where as our version would be done by actual fans.

It's nice to dream though, isn't it *sighs*

reply

You have the wrong director-producer in mind. The ones who'd even consider remaking a piece like this would be people like Sam Raimi or Robert Rodriguez. James Cameron these days would want to distance himself as far away from B-movie as he possibly can. I don't think he'd even admit any past association with someone like Roger Corman.

The good news is that you don't have to.

Nobody will put a gun to your head and
force you to watch it if a remake is ever
done so keep watching
the original over and over again if that's

sad music.I'm sure that there could be more heart
and soul in a remake than there was here!

reply

Trioxin, the more posts I read by you the more I agree with you. Demons was a purely 80's film and could never be remade. The soundtrack was killer and so were the effects. Imagine recreating it in a big budget hollywood version? Just wouldnt be the same man.

reply

Exactly my friend. They would never be able to capture the atmosphere and tension of the 80's version. No matter who they got to helm the movie. This is if it was done by Hollywood. But like I said above, I might be interested if it was done by an Italian company with no links to Hollywood what so ever.

If it is Hollywoodized then the contents would be nothing more than sh_t in a tin with a label "Demons" uh huh.

Look at Night of the Demons remake. It has nothing what so ever that made the first one good. No atmosphere, nothing. Hell, the acting in the original is far superior to the remakes acting. It really is. Shannon Elizabeth as Angela is no where near as creepy as Amelia Kinkade as Angela.

Because it's extra publicity if it's a remake and it avoids
a lawsuit(makers of the original won't sue).
And if you want today's audience to see the original,a remake
is the best way to focus spotlight on the original.

Without a remake,alot of people won't even
know that the original was ever made.

They could NEVER capture the atmosphere and tension of that movie in a remake. Not the begining or the middle or the end of the movie. NEVER!.

Without a remake,alot of people won't even
know that the original was ever made.

Now you are just being silly!. Plenty of people know about both Demon movies.

It's only the ignorant [MTV crowd] that is oblivious to the Demon movies existence. As they are so used to sh_t being thrown at them and they think that this is how movies are. The MTV crowd needs beaten up and their nipples set on fire and then educated on how it really is!. But then again it is no loss being that the MTV crowd has no clue to the Demon movies existence. The Demon movies are what they are through the decent horror fans out there. Not through the MTV crowd. Otherwise the Demon movies would be like Venom and Darkness Falls and many other useless movies made by Hollywood and aimed towards the MTV crowds!.

reply

I have to say that a remake of Demons would be the last thing on Earth I would like to see, that being said, my post was originated through something I had read with regards to this very fine Italian chiller.

My own personal introduction to the Italian horror genre were the works of Lucio Fulci, 'The Beyond' & 'Zombie Flesh Eaters' as good as there are, it was primarily 'Demons' & the Michele Soavi duo of fright flicks 'StageFright' & 'Dellamorte Dellamore'that really struck a chord with me.

I can't quite recall if there has ever been an Italian horror movie remade for the Euro/American film market.

It's too bad that the Italian film industry or to be more precise, those Italian mavericks of the Italian horror genre don't appear to be emerging.

reply

Yeah I totally agree man. Its really a shame too. It seems that the younger audiences have no desire to see Italian horror any more. Oh well at least we have our classics. I had heard they were remaking Suspiria...no real suprise there...yet another classic to be ruined!

reply

I found a post someone left in another forum as I was searching Google for Demons stuff [articles on the movie, those who starred in it and pictures of them, you know stuff like that].

And the post that caught my eye in a link to a forum summed up everything perfectly as far as a Demons remake is concerned.

Seeing as how i feel Demons 1 AND 2 are italian horror film perfection , you can bet i think this is a Whore - rendous idea .

Plus , wasn't Demon Knight a piss poor " remake " of Demons anyway , without the inspired irreverance and all out disregard for H wood conventions , or traditional cinematic traditions in general ?

I have to steal a quote from Tony the Pimp , it sums up my feelings with regards to a potential remake : "Smash everything, smash everything, smash everything, smash everything" .

That quote at the end had me wiping my eyes through laughing so hard.

NO REMAKE.

"I will always be there for you to haunt you in your dreams."

reply

A remake would be pointless as it would fail to capture all the madness of the original. Everything about Demons is enjoyable even the flaws like the bad dubbing and plot inconsistencies. Those elements make Demons funny and thrilling and none of that would flow into the remake so it would be a dull, lifeless imitation.

It all adds to the charm. More money for production does not mean bigger and better movies. Just ask Kevin Costner!.

reply

If any movie could be improved by a remake it would be this.. I watched this last night and I thought it was great. But it is terribly low budget, with crappy special effects and what was with the american dubbing? This could be improved and could be frightening with the right work.

reply

I wouldn't mind a remake if it was done by Jaume Balagueró or Neil Marshall. It would possibly spawn a couple sequels and ultimately revamp the series.

I would prefer however for Lamberto Bava to create a 'true' Demons 3. I know The Church was supposed to be the third part, but for Demon fans we know that's not the case.

This movie is still in my top 5.

reply

I agree with Neil Marshall he could do a damn good job of it.

I am Anti remake on Demons myself, however, when I did my low budget flick, Deadlands 2: Trapped, Demons was a huge inspiration in terms of the movie theater setting.

5. Have a great rock soundtrack like the original, but maybe play the songs at more appropriate times.

This rock music idea scares me more than the remake idea. Why?. The music they would use would be pure undiluted sh!t. No way in hell would it be anywhere near as good as the score in Lamberto Bava's Demons movie. It would be all this crap that's around today. Slipknot, Lamb of God, Crapallica, etc. Complete and utter WANK!. So no, a rock soundtrack based on todays music IS A BIG NO. Best keep it to a complete horror ambient score for full effect. Since the music of today wouldn't suit it unlike the brilliance of Saxon and Accept back in the 80's.
