What's with those scenes with the guys in the car listening to classic 80's music, driving round the streets sniffing Coke Cola - I honestly don't get those scenes.

They let a demon out of the theater when they run in to get away from the cops. It's because of them the demons spread all over the city.
shareExactly right. They're there from a narrative standpoint to explain the spread of the Demons. And I guess Lamberto Bava repeatedly cuts back to them throughout the movie as an excuse to show some scenes outside of the theatre. Though I think it would be more effective and claustrophobic to not do this.
