Sequel in the works

Arnold Schwarzenegger isn't done just yet! We've learned he's making a sequel to one of his silliest movies.
The Terminator isn’t the only movie in which the Governator said, “I’ll be back.” He said it again in 1985’s Commando, and now our trusted and proven sources tell us Arnold Schwarzenegger is keeping his promise by returning for Commando 2.
The sequel’s proper name is Commando: Retribution, and Schwarzenegger is attached to reprise his role as former Special Forces Colonel John Matrix.
According to the logline for Commando 2, the plot won’t stray too far from the original. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s John Matrix is forced out of retirement when his daughter is kidnapped, leading him on a high-octane mission to rescue her and bring down the ruthless criminals responsible.
This sounds quite a lot like the first movie, in which his daughter Jenny (Alyssa Milano) is kidnapped by mercenaries, opening the door for lots of shirtless firefights.
It’s an interesting move for Arnold Schwarzenegger, who will turn 80 at the end of July. Though his work on Netflix’s FUBAR signaled he wasn’t done either with screen acting or with the action genre, the new series has a healthier dose of comedy in its formula. Commando took itself a bit more seriously than the Netflix show, but there’s no reason Commando 2 couldn’t go in a different direction.
While it was The Terminator that catapulted Arnold Schwarzenegger into superstardom, it’s Commando that made him an action hero. Unlike James Cameron‘s iconic sci-fi flick, Commando features Schwarzenegger as the protagonist. Many of Arnold’s subsequent films were far superior, but you can see all of what would become the hallmarks of a Schwarzenegger action blockbuster in Commando.
In particular, Commando began Arnold Schwarzenegger’s beloved delivery of corny, but irresistibly hilarious, one-liners. For example, when he kills a villain by driving a pipe through his chest, causing steam to pour out of the pipe, Matrix quips, “Let off some steam, Bennett.”
After killing a man on a plane and posing him to look like he’s sleeping, he tells the flight attendant, “Don’t disturb my friend, he’s dead tired.”
One thing we’ll be curious to learn about Commando 2 is if any of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s co-stars will return. We’d love to see Alyssa Milano (Charmed) return as Matrix’s daughter, particularly considering her character (assuming it isn’t a different daughter) is so important to the plot.
Then there’s Rae Dawn Chong (The Color Purple), who plays Cindy — a woman who becomes Matrix’s love interest and ally after he commandeers her car.
Most of the rest of the more well-known stars in Commando play characters who are thoroughly dead by the end of the film, so we wouldn’t expect them to join Arnold Schwarzenegger in Commando 2.
Once we know more about Commando: Retribution, we’ll make sure you know.
