These have probably been asked before, but I don't see any current threads for them so:
1. Why does Celie tell Harpo to beat Sofia?
Is it jealousy/wants others to suffer besides her?
2. Where did Albert get all that money? I get he had a good amount of land, and his dad had some money, but still.

1. Because it's all Celia knows, so she actually thinks that's what a man should do to "control" his woman. And perhaps she was jealous that Sofia had such a strong sense of herself.
2. The money - he had other money stashed around the house, too. It would seem his farm was doing fairly well. He had a nice house, clothes, horses and farm equipment.
I figured it was because she felt that was what men ha to do with women because of her abuse. Although I think it would be funny if Celie knew Sofia would kick his ass back.
