I'm currently reading the book and loving it. It's a bit weird, but I constantly think how great a modern remake of this movie would be - I haven't seen it yet, but I really think we have amazingly talented black actresses nowdays who could definitely pull it off. I think Viola Davis would be a fantastic Celie, Kerry Washington would do an awesome job as Shug Avery and I think Octavia Spencer would make a perfect Nettie. For Sofia, I think Gabrielle Union would be wonderful.Not sure what you think, I just wanted to get this out of my head haha.

I don't think a modern remake is a great idea. Most of the things that made this movie great, wouldn't work in modern times. IF they did a remake, it will have to still be a period piece.

A remake is completely unnecessary. The original was brilliant and can not be touched; so leave it be.
