Why is Dennis Farina so low in the credits?

I watched this last night for the first time in decades and as the opening credits played out I was struck by all the unfamiliar names listed. The only names I knew were Norris, Silva and Remsen. Then, within seconds of the opening credit sequence, there's Dennis Farina! And he has a major part in the film! Why wasn't he listed among all those lesser cast members in the opening credits? I don't recall how well known he was at the time, but I do know that he had a major supporting role (as Jack Crawford) in MANHUNTER the following year. In CODE OF SILENCE he has one of the third or fourth most important parts among the cops. He should have been listed in the opening credits.

I was wondering the same thing when I watched recently. He wasn't extremely well known at the time but had a few notable credits to his name and given the size of his role it seems like he should have been higher upper.

It was only his second role, but I do agree it is a fairly substantial part for him to be credited so low.

He hit the big time over the next few years with Crime Story and Midnight Run.šŸ

At this stage he was a former Chicago cop just getting started in his career. Very soon he would do midnight run and hit it big
