Remake: Who would you want the cast to be?

First off, I'm gonna start off by saying that I love this movie and it was one of the familiar movies of my childhood (even though it came out in 1985 and I was born in 1990). I've watched this movie so many times over the years and when I found it in the $5 bin at Wal-Mart a couple of years ago, I bought it instantly.

However, since I've became such a big fan of this movie, I've wanted there to be a remake (and by reading some of the posts on here, there might be one....hopefully). While thinking about a remake, I've been thinking of who I'd like to see them cast.

So, here are the people that I think they should consider hiring for the movie, if it ever happens:

Colonel Mustard: Bill Murray

Why: I love Bill Murray, first and foremost. He's a phenomenal actor and is one of the best comedic actors of the last couple of decades. We haven't seen much of him lately but when we do, he's awesome. Martin Mull played Col. Mustard in the 1985 movie, so I was trying to think of an older actor that could portray Col. Mustard and I came up with Murray. He would be hysterical as the colonel and would make the movie worth watching, just by himself. (Also considered Jeff Bridges and Bruce Willis).

Mrs. Peacock: Susan Sarandon

Why: You really don't think of Susan Sarandon as a "comedic actress", but she's been in a few comedies in the last couple of years -- That's My Boy, Jeff Who Lives at Home, Mr. Woodcock, etc; hell, she was even in a movie called "Peacock" in 2010. Like Col. Mustard, I was trying to think of an older person to play her and I came up with Sarandon. She'd definitely provide a nice relief to the film and could easily play the serious points during the movie, as well. (Also considered Sigourney Weaver and Betty White).

Professor Plum: Kevin Spacey

Why: Like Bill Murray, I love Kevin Spacey. He's one of the best actors in my generation, there's no doubt about that. He is also very versatile, as he can perform well in comedies and dramas. Over the years, we've seen Spacey play in comedies 'Horrible Bosses' and 'The Men who Stare at Goats', along with familiar movies 'The Usual Suspects', 'Pay It Forward', 'American Beauty', '21', and many other movies. Additionally, in the last handful of years, we've seen Spacey perform in comedies more than dramas and he may continue to go that route. I think he'd definitely be a good fit as Prof. Plum, a therapist in the government. (Also considered Steve Martin).

Ms. White: Gwyneth Paltrow

Why: This was one of the toughest of the bunch, as I couldn't think of an actress that can play that somber, soft-speaking, crazy woman. Eventually, I came up with Gwyneth Paltrow, who somewhat played that type of character in the hit 'The Royal Tenenbaums'. Paltrow really hasn't been in that many comedies over the years, as she's been starring in both 'Iron Man' movies and 'The Avengers', along with 'Contagion' and 'Country Strong'. When you think about it, her last comedic roles that were actually a "hit" were 'Shallow Hal' and 'The Royal Tenenbaums' in 2001. Other than that, she really hasn't done anything in comedies. But, I believe Clue would intrigue her. (Also considered Courteney Cox).

Mr. Green: Will Ferrell

Why: I've always been a big fan of Will Ferrell, as he's gained a lot of notoriety over the years for being one of the most familiar faces in comedies in the 21st century; with hits 'Step Brothers', 'Anchorman', 'Talladega Nights', 'The Other Guys', 'Semi-Pro' and others. He's phenomenal in comedies, even though some of them are over the top -- but that's what I love about his movies. With the "main" male cast in 'Clue', it's just naturally assumed that Col. Mustard and Prof. Plum are in their 50's and perhaps even in their 60's, while Mr. Green is somewhere in his 40's, which is where Ferrell is. With the wide fanbase that he has, many people would want to go see Clue just for him. He'd be awesome as Mr. Green, as he was the first person I thought of to play this role. (Also considered Jim Carrey and Gary Cole).

Miss Scarlett: Marisa Tomei

Why: This was kinda tricky, but I eventually came up with Marisa Tomei. If the remake based their new movie off of the 1985 version, then it would be assumed that Miss Scarlett runs a "house of ill repute", if you know what I mean. When pondering that aspect, Tomei was someone that popped in my head, mainly because I had just watched 'The Wrestler' again, a movie in which she played a stripper. Tomei has appeared in a few comedies over the years, mainly 'Crazy, Stupid Love', 'Cyrus' and 'Wild Hogs' and will also appear in comedies 'Parental Guidance', 'Why Now?!' and 'Lucky Them' in the near future. I've always been a fan of Marisa Tomei and I believe she'd be able to play the role of Miss Scarlett exceptionally well. (Also considered Katey Sagal and Charlize Theron).

Wadsworth: Robert Downey Jr. (if they use the character)

Why: This was the toughest character to think of. I just couldn't, for the life of me, figure out who would play Wadsworth and play it well -- of course, all of this would depend on the director to actually put Wadsworth in the movie again. I was trying to think of an English actor, someone like Rowan Atkinson, Michael Crane (who plays Alfred in the Dark Knight series), Daniel Craig (doesn't do comedies), Jude Law, Hugh Grant and even Malcolm McDowell. But when it came to it, I just couldn't think of a proper fit. Finally, it clicked. Jude Law's co-star in the Sherlock Holmes movies -- Robert Downey Jr. I'm a humongous fan of Downey, as he is one of my favorite actors in Hollywood. Downey would be able to provide a certain amount of energy to the role, much like what Tim Curry did in the 1985 edition. Downey also has that dry sense of humor, but it's still hysterical. Downey has played in a number of great roles lately, especially both Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes movies, along with mega-hit The Avengers, Due Date, Tropic Thunder and Zodiac. Lately, Downey has flourished in comedic roles and he would undoubtedly be excellent as an English butler in Clue. (Also considered nobody).

Mr. Boddy: Vincent D'Onofrio

Why: As we all know, Mr. Boddy was assumed to be the bad guy in the 1985 edition. During the 1985 movie, Mr. Boddy was considered to be the blackmailer who was exploiting money from everyone in the mansion with additional informants. However, with the three alternate endings, Mr. Boddy was the blackmailer (Boddy) but was also the butler (to Tim Curry, who was really Mr. Boddy). When trying to think of who would play Mr. Boddy, who would likely not appear for very long, I was trying to think of an actor that has played an intelligent person in the past and who has also played some type of gangster. D'Onofrio has done both, as he has been mainly known by his character in 'Law & Order: Criminal Intent', a very smart person who delves into the mind of his criminals. He has also played one of the craziest roles I've ever seen, a murderous psychopath in 'The Cell' with Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Lopez. There's no doubt in my mind that D'Onofrio would be an excellent Mr. Boddy. (Also considered Ray Liotta, Hugh Laurie and Bruce Campbell).

Yvette the Maid: Kaley Cuoco (if they use the character)

Why: Honestly, this was one of the easiest decisions I made. I love "The Big Bang Theory" and Kaley Cuoco, as well. In the original version, Yvette was supposed to be this amazingly beautiful, blonde woman (and she actually was) -- and that's what Cuoco is. Cuoco has been in a couple of comedic TV shows over the years, namely 'The Big Bang Theory' and '8 Simple Rules' (with the departed John Ritter). She really hasn't done much outside of that, with the biggest movie she was in being 'Hop', an animated movie with James Marsden and the voice of Russell Brand. However, since she is familiar with comedies over the course of her career, I believe she'd be a good fit in Clue. (Also considered Natalie Portman, Malin Akerman and Mila Kunis).

The Chef: Conchata Ferrell

Why: There's really no explanation needed. She'd be a great fit. I just threw this character in here at the last second, because I was watching Two and a Half Men and she reminded me of the Chef in the 1985 movie.

That's condition 1. Condition 2: the only reason to possibly consider a remake would be to snip the ending which blames Wadsworth, and insert a new one that makes him the definite hero.

this is a fantastic line-up. I would approve of this. The only one I am not familiar with is Ed Helms, but the rest is great.

Ed Helms is my favorite Mr. Green candidate.

reply

Wow. That works for me.

The only thing that'd worry me would be the script and the tone.

It'd be tough to match the original and, therefore, might suck.

reply

Honestly I think I'd want a remake to be a more darker mystery movie instead of a comedy.

This is one of those movies where I just cannot see anyone else playing any of the characters. Although I've always thought Susan Sarandon could pull off Ms. Scarlett, since they kind of look alike.
