Secret Passageways

I'd like to get some perspective from some of the other Clue fanatics out there.

If any of you know architecture, how are the passageways possible to go from corner to corner of the mansion?

The film really only shows Mustard and Scarlet traversing the Conservator/Lounge passageway, and there seems to be some exterior light coming from somewhere - but do you imagine that the passageways go down into the lower level, along the outer walls, and then back up? If they don't go down a level, and only run along the outer walls, then there could be no windows...

This always bothers me too when I watch it ?

Yes,

Now that I think about it secret passage ways in homes in movies, always seem to defy the laws of physics.

They always show the passageways going around the walls of a room, and yet, rooms always seem to have doorways and windows that lead to the outside of the room, and possibly to the outside of the home... and yet they never intersect.

Secret Passageways are almost like "wormholes" or something.

As has been pointed out, they should go under the home or something...

But, when I see this movie, I have to ask, why are there secret passages in the first place. Why did the designer of the home feel a need to hide, and who from?

Now if you are talking about a secret "room" next to the one you are in, like a Panic Room, and there is a hidden door... well that is something different.

We don't exactly know why there are secret passageways in the Clue mansion - for the games or the movie, for that matter. There's really no rhyme or reason as to why the Study goes to the Kitchen, or the Lounge into the Conservatory. Maybe the original owners of the mansion wanted a quick way to grab a snack when working in the study? Or a quick way to get the milk of the poppy from the the conservatory when hosting in the lounge?

On a side note - Casa Loma in Toronto, has a great Clue vibe to all the rooms. There is a study on the main floor of the castle, with two secret wall panels, each flanking the fireplace. One goes down into the wine cellar, and one goes up to his lady's bedroom. Each of the passageways contains a narrow winding staircase - and it's easy to determine why these were located in Sir Henry's study. :)

Thanks for saying this. It's so...troubling, for lack of a more impolite word, when IMDB boards are filled with clearly intelligent minds who pick apart for picking-apart's sake. Of all the plot questions I've had about "Clue"--well, they were sincere, they were questions. Some things about fiction you just have to take on faith and artistic license. Else, why 1) watch; not to mention 2) take the time to come to a website and post?

Study & Kitchen are opposing corners, as too are Lounge & Conservatory. Which means they must go through a hidden basement corridor or deeper, surely even intersecting as an X midway.
That would explain why no windows, & the film escapes itself by only showing us a few quick moments inside each corridor.

We do see the basement via Plum & Peacock's searching, & for such a large house it's awfully dungeon like with several semi-walled blind spots rather an an open concept, giant space.
I'm fine with believing the secret passageways are subterranean.
