Einstein did NOT jump over that minute..

Wouldn't the events Marty sets in motion when he meets the doc in 1955 be MORE convincing proof that his time machine works, than putting Einstein through the 'skipping one minute'-experiment?

Why would the doc ever do that 'Einstein experiment' now, _OR_ be so excited about it, that he's been waiting 'for all his life', when he KNOWS from experience that the timeslip-feature of the DeLorean works?

In other words, the 'Tw..eh, Lone Pine Mall' (why not just call it 'Pine Mall', or something - would they REALLY specify the number of pines if it's not two, to make the cutesy 'Twin Pines Mall', but just one? It seems the 'Lone' exists SOLELY for the benefit of the viewer of the movie being able to notice that the number of pines changed) stuff would be COMPLETELY different.

Isn't it also tragic how the Doc would befriend a completely different Marty with different past, different parents, experiences, possessions, etc. (although same house, but different contents of the house), and probably different viewpoint to life (driving a 4-by-4 would be a very different lifestyle than using a skateboard to move around - in fact, the 'Lone Pine Mall' should have Marty's truck parked somewhere, since THAT Marty doesn't travel around on a skateboard! (Would you, if you could use a cool 'dream car'?))..

..and then loses THAT Marty forever, and is now stuck with a different Marty he doesn't -really- know anymore (only some hazy memories of him from three decades ago - he probably doesn't even know he uses a skateboard to travel around - not that he HAS that skateboard anymore, since history changed..)?

Anyway, my point is that Marty's letter is really weird, vague and nonsensical. Why would Marty write THAT instead of, oh, I don't know, let's say:

- "Your time travel-experiment will cause THESE things to happen, so please cancel and forget it completely" (POOF! No need to do anything else, as the time travel-experiment will never happen now, if Doc has any sense) - of course he'd have to list the things, including being shot in the chest in the mall by Libyan terrorists

- "Make sure the DeLorean can travel through time WITHOUT plutonium, or this will happen" (and then list what will happen)

- "Make sure the DeLorean ALWAYS has a couple of EXTRA PLUTONIUM units in the glove compartment or something, so no one can ever be stranded in time - keep them there as soon as you acquire the plutonium"

- "Make sure Libyans won't, and CAN'T find out where you're conducting your time travel-experiments and when"

- "Make sure you conduct your experiment somewhere far away from Hill Valley, especially the Mall parking lot, because that's where they will shoot you"

- "Make sure you do that experiment alone, and don't involve me or Einstein in any way (not that you need to experiment now that you know the Flux Capacitor works)"

People who make time travel-movies, never seem to understand how much just INFORMATION would change things. If you can get information about future, that infromation would change that very future..

In any case, I think it's stupid and unrealistic that someone like Doc would risk SO MUCH, and _ONLY_ get a bulletproof vest, and let EVERYTHING ELSE unfold as stupidly dangerously as before!

It's also unbelievable that the clocks we see in the beginning are OUT OF SYNC with each other! Look at the 'animal clocks' with those eyes going back and forth - you see they do not match, they're not synchronized, one of the animals move eyes exactly oppositely to the others, so it's completely out of sync! (It moves eyes to the left when the others move theirs to the right and vice versa)

Someone likd Doc would NEVER let this happen - look how meticulous he is with making the model of Hill Valley JUST to demonstrate a simple principle to a layman!

The clocks are not just some casual random stuff he just happens to do at a spur of the moment - they are an _ACTUAL_EXPERIMENT_ that he's excited to know the results of! Would THIS character really be this sloppy?!

"Don't get too deep, it leads to overthinking, and over thinking leads to problems that don't even exist in the first place."

But to answer your main concern: Marty advised Doc to take necessary precautions.

Doc didn't want to change too many details of the night in question as he knew the time loop needed to be kept intact.

The events at the Mall had to take place to ensure Marty went back to 1955 to warn Doc about getting shot.

Ergo Doc did everything as before but this time wore a bullet proof vest.

In the original 1985 timeline, Marty hadn't gone Back To The Future. Him travelling back to 1955 changed a lot about the present time.

Maybe in 1985b, Doc didn't bother to do the experiment. We didn't witness it the second time around.

But maybe he did. Maybe on witnessing it on the video camera in the 1950s, he wanted to keep the original time jump the same as possible in order to protect the time line. So did the experiment, and faked the reaction.
