sad

I remember loving this movie as a child, i just put a hold on it at the library so I can watch it again. I barely remember it, I was probably 4 or 5 at the time it came out, but I do remember crying, very sad.

I vaguely remember it, but can't recall anything specific about it. I wouldn't mind seeing it again.

i couldnt bring myself to watch when the male died at the start then when the mother was chasing the trailer with the baby calling out in distress. my mother had to rewind never ending story when the horse sank in the mud just to stop me crying i nearly choked.i still cant watch any fighting scenes using horses. some things just stick!

reply

I totally feel you there. I love westerns, but seeing how many horses had to be "rolled" for dramatic purpose makes me ill.

Same goes with any older cavalry movie.

I wonder how movies like "Braveheart" (and I cannot think of any better examples) where they use computer animation to illustrate several hundred hours slamming into spears that are braced against the ground affect you? I know it bugs me -- and I *know* it is not real.

I think it's the fact that the poor horsel might realize what a sharp stake is but its compelled by its rider to plunge head long in to the piece of wood. The horse isn't trying to kill anybody but it gets to die anyway.

And I know I'm not being accurate because the pikes in Braveheart were a surprise for both rider and horse, its just that the horses are technically innocent and deserve no harm! It bothers me too.

P.S. When I was five or so I didn't quite grasp the concept of death so the death scene in Baby didn't bother me much. When I got a little older I'm sure I was close to bawling when the father died. Funny how that happens, huh?

You horse advocates should study medieval warfare a little bit more. The horses were trained to be every bit the warrior that the man sitting on them was. Horses were trained to bite, kick, and stomp enemy soldiers. The warhorses they used, called destriers, were larger and much more powerful than the horses we think of today. Also, horses would not charge into massed spikes or a manned defensive wall. They're a little bit smarter than that.

How about when the Animal people, Gosh I forgot what they are called at the moment, (I'm tired) anyhow the people who protect animals in the movies etc. to make sure they aren't hurt... how about the days when they didn't do their thing. I heard that before them they would, just because they could, hurt and KILL animals for movies. I heard of one scene, forgot the name of the western movie, but they needed the horses to go off the cliff. They made them go off the cliff and supposedly Show the poor things hitting the ground and die. Soooo stinkin sad. And again, not my best day for showing off my memory, other than to show it stinks, but there is a movie where people got into trouble because they show a water buffalo getting speared or stabbed... just killed, is what I remember. It was one of those 1980's, I think, war movies. They filmed in another country and got fined for it. But heck, let's go ahead and Kill the poor animals for the sake of the movie, cause, gee wiz... all that'll happen to us is we'd get a fine. Big whoop. Sheesh. Sad, sad.

oh, I *adored* this movie. Haven't seen it since, but I remember thinking that, omg, that was SUCH a good movie...

I only remember the plot vaguely; but I know that I cried so hard when the mom dinosaur found the baby again I thought my lungs would explode (i was about six or seven years old at the time).

I also remember the dinosaur effects being really cool, and I was sure if I watched it now I'd be like, what the hell is with the clay dinosaurs? You know how these things never compare with our memories. But some people say it still isn't that bad. Now I'm definitely going to have to rent it and watch it again.

Thanks for the idea!

Yeah, it was sad, even depressing at times.

I remember my dad renting this movie on video tape waaay back in the day. Vaguely recall anything about this movie except for a baby dinosaur and something sad about it. Would definately like to see it again though...

Yup, when I was 6 I was mad into Dinosaurs. This movie was one of those bitter-sweet films of my childhood. I hated the hunters trying to kill the Dino's. It made me very sad. I haven't seen it since but I hope to see it again.
