A Saucer of Lonliness

This is probably my favorite sci-fi short story, maybe my favorite short story ever. But I was always disappointed with this episode.

I guess my biggest problem is with Shelley Duvall. She's miscast, in my opinion. From my reading of the story, I picture the girl as vulnerable and depressed, not pathetic. Besides, she's too old. In the short story she is 17 when the saucer finds her, then a few years pass, but she's still less than 25. Duvall was 35-36 when this appeared.

I know this is only an adaptation, but that's my read. Maybe Michelle Pfeiffer for the part. She was pretty big by the mid-80's, but she could do the vulnerable thing pretty well.
