Really overrated

I like this cartoon; but since I was a child, I am 23 years old, this cartoon has been the favorite and so called perfect. This is not bad, but it is unfair that while Thundercats has a fan club, that sees only the good, the same people states every single flaw, even the smallest, of "Silverhawks" and "Tigersharks".

I myself wrote a post here on IMDB about how underrated is "Silverhawks", curiously the few thundercats lovers who replied wrote only about how much they love thundercats and why "Silverhawks" is inferior.

The point is that thundercats have their flaws and mistakes, obviously I will not state each one of them, but few; and this is not just for criticizing, is for you people to accept that thundercats are far from perfect.
For example, they are not natives of the 3rd plane but they run around as if they had created the planet, Come on! even ferbils must know the planet better.
The villains are really ridiculous and pathetic, specially the mutants; not a single villain in thundercats has won, none of them; but guess what? the mutants have a legendary sword more poweful that lion-o's one and Mumm-Ra has a secret master plan to defeat the cats. I remember that episode where lunatacs broke the sword, and guess what? no panic, no worries, no nothing, Lion-o was calm and quiet; apart from that time there has not been any defeat for the cats.
I do not know if you have watched it, but there are a few chapters where the "Silverhawks" were defeated and killed by Mon-Star; and a few years in the future the Earth sends a green hawk who can travel through time to rescue them.

Silverhawks villains are far better; Mon-Star is a master criminal mind, a mobster who acts when he wants o has to and has great minions, Buzz-Saw with his perfect way to use saws, Hardware with his gadgets and guns, Wind Hammer who can create the biggest storms on the galaxy, Melodia is the perfect rival for BlueGrass, Mo-Lec-U-Lar can copy any person, PokerFace has its own casino, and there is this guy who can copy and erase the memory of any person; but the most important thing, all of them have escaped from jail.
Snarf is supposed to be the comic relief, but most of the time he is an obstacle and a coward who hides or says crap; TallyHawk is a spy, a scout, a messenger and a weapon, he is a great ally.

The "Silverhawks" can live withou technology, they can travel without the Mirage; on the other hand Panthro would rather die than live without technology and the Cats felt vulnerable when the power of the Cat's Lair was gone.

It is true that the heroes may be the bad point of the "Silverhawks", but let us face it, BlueGrass, Stargazer, TallyHawk, Condor, the african american hawk and the green hawk are not so generical as the main four.

I do not hate Thindercats, but I like the most the "Silverhawks"; this post is just a personal opinion with a few facts. I accept replies and take no offense, but if you people wish to insult me, better save it.

You do make an interesting point. I don't entirely agree with it - I can't comment on Silverhawks, because I have never seen it.

My own opinion of Thundercats is somewhat divided. Season 1, yes, I love that. It's great. They get to know the planet thanks to the Berbils, the Warrior Maidens etc. "They run around as if they own the planet," you say - look at the early episodes, they do take time to learn about the planet.

The later series, however, I don't hold with. The Sword of Plundarr versus the Sword of Omens, you're right, that is very iffy I agree. Although the re-formation of Thundera trumps it for dodginess. Thunderian refugees in season 4 - where did they come from? In the very first episode they were all killed!

reply

Season 1 speaks for itself as to how brilliant it series was, goes without saying really. First half of season 2 was alright in itself too, but after Thundera was reformed the show **Jumped The Shark** big time and then later on they all moved back there except for Tygra and Pumyra!

Thunderian refugees in season 4 - where did they come from? In the very first episode they were all killed!

Those Thunderians following the royal flagship yes i'd agree, but surely their planet people during such a planet wide evacuation consisted of more than those ships the Mutants wiped out that were following the ThunderCats on the early part of the exodus. A passing Berbil starship even picked up Lynx-O, Pumyra and Bengali, so its not hard to assume they were more Thunderian survivors beyond those ships the mutants took out however. 'Baron Tass' ship even came to New Thundera near the series' end, so its a big universe i'd say.

Uh... ThunderCats is my favorite cartoon from the '80s but it was far from brilliant. It had enough plotholes to fly a airplane through. Not to mention all of the convenient save the day moments and McGuffins.

And Season 1 hasn't aged gracefully.

Believe me T-Cats has aged beautifully, alot moreso than Ben-10 and other shows of today era, that are barely 5 years old. All these 3D kids shows of today can't compare to the 80's when it was the "Golden age" of cartoons, and plenty of people already recognise that fact, so its a moot point from you to be honest!

I'm not comparing ThunderCats to other cartoons, I'm critiqueing it as a stand alone property. You seem to have a very strong attachment to it so, sure, if you say so.

The bottom line is that Thundercats was made for children, an audience who do not care about plot holes & who want to see the good guys win & that's the whole point of the show, To encourage a strong moral fibre in the children watching it & to capture their imagination at the same time which this show did, far better than any other before or since. That is why it is regarded as the greatest cartoon of all time by most. It satnds alone, The animation for the the time was beyond compare & there are still scenes today that outshine anything elses, even in the digital age.

I find some of those other shows mentioned unwatchable today, "Silverhawks" chief among them. I adored it as a child, had all the toys, etc. But it's borderline incoherent watching it now.

"Thundercats" had a number of misfires (the Lunattacks' [sp?] exile/the circus train coming to mind), but on the whole, it was an outstanding show that I can still enjoy at 26.

Here's why ThunderCats is better than SilverHawks:

ThunderCats did not have a character from the planet of the mimes.

In all seriousness both shows are basically the same. I'd argue the big difference is that one has more sci-fi elements while the other has more fantasy elements. BUT really...they're the same show.

Yes Self-Patriot, thats because i'm clearly a fan whenever i answer a question or respond to a topic in its defense. But according to you thats seen as an unusual attachment or crime. Wow (*facepalms*).

I'm so glad i didn't respond to this reply i.e. dribble of yours months ago but now that i look at it. Lol, it'll seriously makes you look all desperate and quite crazy, for trying to stir someone like me up, but i'm too smart for that to happen ('wink'). *Sigh* You just seemly can't deal or express yourself well enough on here without trying to tear somebody else down cos they can defend their opinions like a mature adult far better than you can, when challenged them in a discussion such as this one etc.

Critiquing it quite badly i'll say. And since you didn't use any worthwhile examples to reason out your critisms clearly (or as you call it comparing it to other toons) enough your plainly, bashing the series is all. So don't think oming out saying you liked the show? like that, can be used as some sort of defense mechanism? i.e. letting you off the hook, cos it doesn't. The majority of your posted comments easily come across as a simple negative rant, cos they quite obviously did. And personally none of your commenting on here ever says you liked the series at all. Sad but true! And yeah "I" certainly do like the series quite alot as i do of many other animated series of the 80's. So please don't think your negative jibes at all directed at me means a damn to me or other proud older T-Cat fans on here o.k., So please go find something else to do with your time on here than waste it trying to refute what we're taking time and enjoy talking about and act all high and mighty etc junior, you got that!

I don't really remember TigerSharks. I did really like SilverHawks, I remember it being my second favorite cartoon after ThunderCats as a kid.

Personally I just found Thundercats to be another bland and boring merchandise-driven cartoon of the 80's that also fell victim to all the ridicilous requirements of the PTA and other parental organizations. Granted, it's still a hell lot less dull than MASK was.

The biggest offender in Thundercats to me is how overpowered the heroes are compared to the villains. The mutants are too stupid to be of any serious menace, and I've by now started to call the Sword of Omens "The sword powered by BS".

My favorite cartoon ever was Transformers. My other favorites were Voltron, Battle of the Planets, He-Man & G.I. Joe. I remember liking Thundercats but never really got into them. I have gone back and started to watch them all again and I actually enjoy them more now. Lol kind of funny.
