The Babysitter
Let’s put it this way, IF anyone remembers this at all and I do, it’s because of the episode “The Babysitter” which I recently saw on YouTube. Someone had put it on there from an old VHS tape and the quality is very low but it’s watchable. It’s not as good as I remembered it but it’s nice to see it again after so many years. “Scene of the Crime” narrated by Orson Welles was supposed to another of those anthology series. From what I understand it was supposed to be more of a whodunit, mystery type of thing rather than horror. Not a whole lot of episodes were made before it went kaput which you’d expect.
As for the episode I’m referring to, I must have been in my early teens when this first aired on TV.
This episode titled “The Babysitter” has to do with a little girl who on her birthday has a party thrown for her by her parents in her house. She gets a gift from the clown in the party who obviously had supernatural powers. He gives her a little figurine of a magician, dressed in a top hat, cape, white gloves, holding a wand on a pedestal which also was a music box. He tells her whenever she needs to make a “special wish” for whatever reason, he’ll (The magician) will be “waiting”
Good thing too, because she’s going to need it. This girl is tormented by her babysitter who her parents get to watch her on the regular when they go out for the evening. She’s psychotic. When the cats away the mice will play. Said babysitter when the coast is clear likes to make this poor child’s life a living hell by terrorizing her. It’s not explained “why” she’s doing what she’s doing by terrorizing the child, turning off the lights and the bath water and dressing in a wig and going after her with a meat cleaver, etc. Me? I just thought she was one of those crazy bitches you run into from time to time.
Even then I had to wonder why and how in the hell was this going on. Why the child just didn’t say something to SOMEBODY? I mean I would have. The babysitter did threaten to kill her and her parents if she said anything, true but would you back off with a threat like that? I’d say “What is she going to do?” I’d go for it.
Girl in desperation reaches the end of her rope & makes her wish and the magician shows up to run interference for her and kills the babysitter who disappears never to be found of course. The child awakens in the morning where she happens to see the statue of the magician on her night table just beside her. After staring at it & focusing she happens to notice one of the white gloves of the magician statue has some blood on it. In other words, special wish GRANTED!
This would’ve been a different episode if I were involved. Me? I would’ve used my special wish for a blow job, but that’s just me. The babysitter was ok looking I’d say & I could see where she'd be upset afterwards & have a reason to come after me with a cleaver and I’m completely cool with that.
Good little episode, again even if it isn’t as good as I remember it but it’s still nice to see it after all these years. Hopefully you remember this one too! Oh and no it’s not on on dvd or blu ray or on Amazon Prime video as far as I can tell. It may exist only on VHS, even then that’s IF you can get it. Last but not least the link to said video is below for you far out cats who remember this sh!t. It’s only a 18/19 mintues watch at the max. Hopefully you still enjoy it. Later!
