Great adaption

I just finished reading the first book and am halfway through the second. I must say that this is the best book adaption I've ever seen in a show! Although the book was more detailed during certain scenes, the writers did and excellent job at summarizing the main point and eliminating unnecessary scenes and characters from the books. This is the only book/show where I like both equally. Does anyone else agree, or disagree?

Oh, I absolutely agree. I read the books too. They did a terrific job adapting it for tv. Also, there was Lonesome Dove. Another good adaptation.

My absolute favorite adaptation is Winds of War/War and Remembrance. Of course, with the author of the novels writing the teleplays, it was certain to be close.

I too enjoyed both equally, simply because the miniseries was so well done. You just don't find the same attention to detail these days.

It's true this miniseries is one of the most popular ever, and has been since it was first aired on ABC in 1985. Still, I think it's an injustice it didn't receive any Emmy nominations for acting (particularly for Kirstie Alley, who was absolutely HAUNTING as Virgilia). The cast was one of the best I've seen!
