The North and South Finale In My Opinion

Bent should have died at the end of Book 2 when he tried to retrieve the weapons that were getting burnt up.

Orry shouldn't have died at all.

I totally agree.

Series 3 is really crappy (although the first two seasons are great in my opinion!). I always pretend it doesn't exist.

It is very funny! Every die hard North and South fan doesn't even consider the 3rd book as part of the story! I can tell you that when I got the DVD box set for Christmas one year, I spent all of my Christmas break (high school Christmas break) watching all the episodes! I got to the 3rd book and I only got 10 minutes in when I had to shut it off! It just took everything that everyone was trying to accomplish in those first two books and turned it all around! It would have been better if they just left it the way it was!

I know my opinion is the majority :)

Hello Goldmoon!

I watched the series before I read the book, but is book three worth reading? I never read it because I hated the 3rd book so much on the series that I didn't want to read it! The quote you entered was great and I feel like maybe the 3rd book is worth giving a shot?

Thanks,

Sarah

I agree! I made it till just about that sex scene and then turned it off! I still do not want to finish and have it forever ruined in my mind. The quote you had made previously when speaking about Madeline and George made me think that it wasn't so bad after all! That Madeline was making due with the situation that she found herself and George too for that matter.

I think John Jakes was trying to run with the success of the first two books and flopped terribly on this last one because the story should have ended after the 2nd book.

Just thoughts!

I am torn to an extent about book III. I preferred the book, but they changed to much in books i and ii to do anything about that. Orry was supposed to have been dead already. so that didn't bother me as much. I didn't like the George/Madeline thing even in the book, but at the same time, I can't think of anyone Orry would have been happier about raising his child and taking care of his widow.

The Ashton/Virgilia stuff from the book I really wish they could have done. It was great! But yeah, Charles was not believable, plus being too young and "pretty". The way they handled Constances murder and Georges reaction where a disappointment compared to those things in the book. In my opinion, the only one that gave a truly great performance of the orginal characters was Bent. He gave me chills. He wasn't as much about his arrogance as he was about deep seeded hate sinking him into insanity. I didn't like how they finished him though. After all he's done, it was rather anticlimatic.
