Charles Main is a son?...or a cousin???

I missed the episode or part of the episode explaining Charles Main's relationship to the family. I just remember his feeling like an outsider at the father's funeral.

Charles is a cousin. He's the son of Tillet Main's brother.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. One more thing....why did Tillet Main take him in???

Because Tillet's brother, Huger, and his wife, Charles' mother, died when a steamer they were on sank. Charles had been staying with Tillet and Clarissa while his parents were on vacation, which is when the steamer sank, so he just continued to stay with them after his parents died.

Was that explained in the mini series or just in the book?

It was explained in the book. It may have been in the miniseries but I can't remember. It doesn't seem to have been explained in the first miniseries, maybe it's talked about in the second one.

There was precious little about Charles' appearance explained in the mini series...it was only in the book we get any info about Charles...

Yeah I noticed that in the mini series. Charles just kind of "showed up" in the third or fourth episode without much explanation. Guess I need to actually read the Jakes book.
