I'm From Charleston + we were WRONG on slavery

BUT and it's a BIG BUT--I'm damn tired of the media crapping on the South while ignoring northern slavery: FACT...more slaves were held in the North at one time--they all came under the US flag--1000's came in the North...North held slaves even from the beginning.
As much as I liked the series, it contributes to the "South only" as the wrong ones. The USA in total was wrong...what we did in Charleston to the Blacks should never be forgotten...but the finger pointing one way should stop Oh, and don't get me started on the present day worship of Lincoln. I swear I believe Bill O'Reilly would kiss his butt each day if he resurrected.

OF course, the North didn't fight the Civil War to free Black people. At best we were an afterthought. In general, the Union gave no more a damn about Black people than the Confederacy.

There were a lot of reasons why the Civil War happened, states rights being amongst the biggies. But slavery was the one point that neither side would budge on. The South fully intended to secede if Lincoln was elected. Lincoln won, and the rest is history. If slavery either didn't exist in the South, or existed as well in the North, the Civil War would not have happened.

That's true. The North fought the Civil War because the South was able to sell goods more cheaply, because they didn't have to pay for labor. This was hurting the North economically. But I'm glad the Civil War happened, so that slavery could end. That was an evil that we are still feeling the effects of. I really think it was meant to happen.

Northern slavery isn't brought up much because the northern states abolished it on its own without warfare and whole decades had passed with outlaw of slavery in the north by the dawn of the Civil War.
