Three gallons of crazy in a two gallon bucket! LOL. She's FANTASTIC (and on the right side).

We'll see whose the filthiest person alive! We'll just see!

Yes, she was fantastic in North and South. Hers was one of the best performances in the series.

I thought her performance was too "over the top".....

she played her part like a "mad" lady...too one keyed

It was the character who was over the top (especially if you read the novel), not the performance.

But she was a "mad" lady. Probably untreated Bipolar Disorder. She was capable of being normal at times, but when she was manic, she was totally unreasonable. Her beliefs were good, but not her murderous rages.

She was good, complex too. Virgillia reaches a point of fanaticism where she becomes very easy to hate, but when she came home all down and out, I didn't want anything but the best for the character.

Agreed. She did an awesome acting job in this movie. I hated that she murdered the congressman in such an obvious way in the end, but Virgilia always did have a temper. She would have been smarter to poison him or something.
