If there WERE a remake...

Who would you cast? I've been giving it some thought, and I've come up with a few I'd love to see take on the lead women's roles. I'm also thinking strict acting ability here, as hair and eye colour can be easily changed to suit the part.
I think Romola Garai would turn in a titanic performance as Virgilia. She'd also make a good Ashton, as she played a similar though subtler role in Daniel Deronda. But I think I would prefer someone like Carey Mulligan as Ashton. I loved Terri Garber, but I'd like to see a more relatable side to Ashton brought out, something a bit more complex than the giggling villain of the original. Mulligan has played a few antagonists before, and I'd love to see her cut her teeth on a performance like this.
I can see Rosamund Pike or Abbie Cornish as Constance, probably more partial to Rosamund here.
For Brett and Madeline I'm stuggling a little. I want to see more from her, but Emily Browning might do well as Brett, she has the sweetness without inducing cavities and her "baby face" definitely suits. Madeline... geez I don't know! I want to say Rachel Mcadams...any suggestions?
For the men, I'm almost at a loss. I can see Lee Pace playing George though. Thoughts?

We really dont need a remake, but if they wanna focus on quality of story and not star power, it would be best to use a bunch of nobodies who need to be discovered. Maybe put in a couple of big stars for cameos so the movies would get advertising.

I would like to see as many American actors as there was in the original. Though I see absolutely no reason to remake this. It's great as it is.
Carey Mulligan, no way. An Education was plenty.

I'd like to see Phoebe Tonkin from The Originals as Madeline or Ashton. I think I'd prefer her as Madeline though, she kind of reminds me of a young Lesley Anne Down and she's got a bit of an exotic look which would fit for Madeline.

Here's her IMBD page:
