Did Nicholas Fabray report Orrey's letters to Justin?

I didnt read the book and the movie only vaguely hints at this. Its seems clear Justin was suspicious of Orrey from the beginning, but that could just be as a handsome younger man with an appointment to West Point.

Not to my knowledge (I'm currently listening to the unabridged audio of it currently) and I don't think so in the movie either. It seems Nicholas simply kept the letters from Madeline and vice versa during Orry's time at West Point.

Justin doesn't like Orry because they do not share the same politics.

reply

No the father said he thought Justin basically was the best guy for her. He kept those letters away from her for selfish reasons. I was surprised the father did that, but he did. I would of not passed it by Justin to intercept the mail.

reply

I know just before the father dies, he admits it was mistake allowing Madeline marrying Justin and hiding the letters from Orry.

reply

That was a life changing move on her fathers part. I think if he did not have Justin take car of those letters she would of found out earlier.

reply

Justin didn't get along with anyone. Not for any specific reasons, just thought he was better than everyone else.

Madeline's father purposely destroyed Orry's letters to Madeline and hers to him after a while because he wanted her to marry Justin. It's been years since I read the books, but I think Nicholas had suffered business reverses and was basically broke. While the Mains were as wealthy as Justin, Orry was young and it would be some years before he was in a position to marry. But Nicholas didn't tell Justin about the letters. If he had, Justin would have confronted Madeline.

reply

Actually, I thought Justin was remarkably unsuspicious of Orry, considering the longing expression plastered across the latter's face every time he saw Madeline. But no, I doubt Nicholas told Justin anything, although he might have had Orry not been away for months at a time and thus mostly not a threat to his plans.
