Lincoln's dramatic scenes

Every time Hal Holbrook is on camera as Lincoln, it reminds me of a stage production. I think he does a good job as Lincoln, but ever scene comes across like he's trying to give the performance of a lifetime.

I never thought about it. But well, every actor should do that every time they act, shouldn't they? Not be overdramatic, of course, but just do the best they can. I haven't seen him much else but what I have seen, he's good. And Lincoln is such an iconic person, so I can imagine he would see it as something to really see as the role of a lifetime to a point.

reply

Every actor should do his/her best when acting, but this is like every word is supposed to be super dramatic not matter what he's saying.

reply

Ah, so you think he over-acted?

But you know, I think it was the directors. A lot of the actors in this overacted a bit. It depended on the type of character they played, villains and I guess historical figures, it seems the directors made them up the dramatics.

reply

Yeah, it think you're right. And, with a part like Lincoln, I can only guess that you would want the actors to really over-play their roles.
