Anyone wish Madeline and Virgillia interacted?

In the novel version of HEAVEN AND HELL, they shared a scene comforting a grief-stricken George. But I thought there would be potential if they interacted much earlier. Both are intelligent (in terms that they aren't afraid to question certain standards), unprejudiced, strong women dealing with the restraining culture at the time. I could argue Madeline might have been able to win Virgilia's trust and respect, maybe curb her extremist ruthlessness and hatred for all things South.

I agree with you. Then again, I don't remember Virgilia interacting much with Ashton or Brett either.

Intelligence and purity.

She does in the novels. When Virgilia makes another visit to Belvedere in 1861 (after the Orry incident), Brett does her best to be hospitable to the woman. In 1871, when Ashton tries to take Mont Royal, Virgilia manipulates her into signing away her ownership (forcing a bottle of acid- actually swamp water- to her face). However, we get less with Madeline.

I see. Yeah, I guess that some of the characters simply didn't have much to do with each other.

Intelligence and purity.
