I am quite shocked that they are closing. There may be tons of empty messages boards, but there are a lot that are full of active posters.
I do look at trivia on things I watch, but mostly come for the forums.
Guess I will be sticking to Digital Spy soaps board then.

shareWow, I've been on IMDB message boards for over 10 years now- and actually made quite a few good friends from them.
Will have to migrate of that to another board to find spoilers and such.
But kodfish is right, some of the big tv shows and also stars; the posts that are on their boards can be quite toxic and also disgusting.

Been here 12 years, mostly on the soap boards and sometimes other shows/movies.
It's quite a shock that they would do this and only give 2 weeks notice. They showed no care for their community. I would be interested to see how much the traffic changes to the site once the forums are gone and whether it was worth it to close the forums and potentially lose a lot of viewers.

I just remembered checking out Katharine McPhee's board a while back (I think it was when she was in Smash, before her current show, Scorpion) and the things that were said about her were horrible - the most polite way I can put it is that they said she was only acting because she worked on her back. Admittedly at the time her personal life was a bit of a mess, but the ott hatred was just awful.
shareThere are a lot of nasty trolls around, had to deal with a couple of them myself when they kept attacking me months at a time for years.
It's sad though, didn't think IMDB would ever close down. But there are so many boards and it's impossible to monitor them all. Just seems very dramatic to close the whole forum side of the website because they can't deal with trolls.

Some truly are! I checked out a couple I watch/ed like Castle and Chicago Fire and the character hatred is so awful I backed away (and probably came back here to remind myself that there are good boards). Like, I know there are people who don't like some characters or storylines here, but they're generally sensible and have reasons, even if I personally might not agree with them, and the reasons are usually understandable. Even the Home & Away board has a weird poster who seems to live for arguing, hence I very rarely post there.

Unlike on here where everyone's opinions and allowed and no-one gang's up. That's why I post my Neighbours stuff here, shame that the good is going to be lost because IMDB can't control the bad.

Yeah I know. I've been coming to the Neighbours board for ten years this year or thereabouts. I guess there's just way TOO many boards for them to police. And Facebook just isn't the same. You feel "awkward" if you make big long posts.
shareFB conversations are going to be nowhere near as deep as conversations on forums. It's going to be a couple of sentences at the most, I imagine a lot of people would just like a post rather than reply, which also ends a conversation.
The drop in traffic to IMDB can't be worth it. Yes there are trolls, but they need a better system to deal with them.

I to have been blasted for that of opinions over the years - particularly on the CSI board, the Sara worshippers use to come in and skite about how they got want they wanted, and when we would tell them that the show wasn't all about her, they would go right off!!!
It will be interesting to see if people power with the petitions does anything!!!

I also come here to see who a guest star is or look at the credits for some of my shows - like currently I'm watching repeats of Cold Case and I like to know who's playing the guest roles, so I probably won't not use the site, but it'll be a lot less frequent now. I'm literally on this board every day.
I actually hesitated to post on here, because of the trolls' reputation, but this board is one of the nicest, most open discussion places I've seen anywhere, not just on IMDB, and even if I disagree, I feel like I can state my opinion and won't get jumped on for it.
All of that said, a while back, user KoalaPig made a forum and I think it's still up, we could also go there, possibly?

I can't believe it! Gutted. I'm on here everyday on my lunch break for a bit of soap chat. I know there are a lot of nasty things, but there are on the internet in general, they can't shut the whole thing down. Very disappointed.

Mine is a combination of all Aussie TV, if that helps. I'm UK-based, so it currently only features shows that are shown over here. More can be added, by members...It's just that I don't know all of them.

shareDrama/soap with comedy elements I think is the best way to describe it. It's about a widower from Sydney who moves with his kids to a place in NZ he used to have holidays in as a child, only to find that he bought the wrong house, and later it turns out it wasn't the place he used to go to, but he's settled there by then.
