The Colbys was just a Dynasty clone, recycling old Dynasty plots. Miles' rape of Fallon and her subsequent pregnancy was virtually identical to Adam's rape of Kirby and her subsequent pregnancy on Dynasty. Even Jeff was involved in both plots as the husband of the rape victim.

I also noticed that the writers also stole plotlines from the old ABC series, Soap, which was a comedy. In Soap, one of the plotlines featured Jessica having to choose between her husband, Chester, who was presumed dead but returned to town, and her new lover, Detective Donahue, who she took up with while Chester was gone. In the end, she chose Chester, but Det. Donahue couldn't physically get himself to leave the mansion. Every time he headed for the door, he would faint and fall down (this was a comedy), so Jessica let him stay until he was able to leave. The Colbys did the exact same thing. Jason chose Francesca over Sable. As Sable was leaving the mansion, she fainted at the front door, unable to leave. Jason then carried her upstairs and let her stay indefinitely.

Of course the most notorious rip-off of Soap occurred in the series' finale. Soap ended its second season with one of its major characters, Burt, being kidnapped by an alien spaceship (again, this was a comedy show). The Colbys ended its second season by having one of its major characters, Fallon, abducted by an alien spaceship.

I think The Colbys was a lot more glamorous than Knott's Landing. Yes, both shows were in CA, but Knots Landing took place in the middle class suburbs. The Colbys were richer than the Carringtons on Dynasty, the Ewings on Dallas and the winemakes on Falcon Crest. Knots was unique because most of the characters were NOT rich.

Actors are mere products of a good writer's imagination

Copying the Alexis/Blake/Krystal triangle was dumb. The main problem with Sable/Jason/Frankie was that we were being asked to root for two selfish persons. Sable was the only one of the three who was a sympathetic person. Jason sleeps with is brother's wife as the brother is serving his country in the Korean War who is also his wife's sister. And Frankie was the worst. She sleeps with her husband's brother as he is serving his country who is also her sister's husband. Not to be outdone, she deserts her son Jeff so she can travel Europe.

I liked the show better when it was about Jason and Sable and their family.
