Song replacement on new Vault Series DVD

So Universal is offering a DVD of The Wild Life for the first time via their Vault Series DVD program which is made to order. Normally this would be great, but unfortunately I have it and much of the music has been replaced due to licensing issues with the artists. I can confirm the list of missing songs includes Billy Idol's "Do Not Stand In The Shadows", Prince's "Dirty Mind", Madonna's "Burning Up", Little Richard's "The Girl Can't Help It" and several music cues as well as ambient tracks that were in the original version, but are nowhere to be found on the DVD. Such a shame. Music rights issues have plagued the history of this long awaited release but we still don't get the original music. Many of Eddie Van Halen's tracks still adorn the film's score but I suspect that a few have gone missing as well. There are many sequences that sport new instrumental tracks which differ from those originally used. I dvr'd the film a few years ago off of Cinemax HD and it has all the original music as well as being widescreen and high definition. It's a great presentation from Cinemax and it's out there on Usenet if you really want the correct presentation of The Wild Life. Don't waste your time on a DVD with song replacement.

I hear you, but... as long as Edward Van Halen is jamming throughout, which he is, I bought and enjoyed it.

But I remember FAST TIMES when it replaced Tom Petty's AMERICAN GIRL with some wacky cartoony instrumental and I never watched it.

At least all the music of FAST TIMES is now intact and back to its original version. That's always a good thing. SIXTEEN CANDLES finally got its soundtrack restored as well. Now if they just see their way clear to restoring THE WILD LIFE soundtrack and all, I'd be much obliged. A Blu-ray from SHOUT! Factory would be very welcomed indeed. The Cinemax HD version is proof positive that an HD master with the original soundtrack already exists. One step closer to a proper release. (update: a fan restoration has been completed based on the HD broadcast)...
